OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

Graduation
My boyfriend and I were talking yesterday, and the topic of his bootcamp graduation came up. Throughout the conversation, he mentioned that he wanted me to come, that he would fly me out to Chicago, ect. He leaves for bootcamp February 5th. I know it's really early to even start planning, but I was wondering if there are any rules on age? I will be seventeen by time he graduates and I have an ID card. (My dad is retired Air Force.) But I don't know if the base will want me to have an adult with me? Also, after the sailors graduate, are they able to spend time with the family or friends who came to the graduation? Or are they just able to come and say "hi", then have to leave?

You will be able to get on the RTC with your ID. You will probably have to take a taxi or shuttle because you will not be able to rent a car at your age. You may need to have the money put back ahead of time for the plane ticket because he won't be able to transfer any money while he is in BC. Will his family be attending as well?
How much time you have with him will depend on where he will go for "A" School or training after PIR, but you will have some time together.
If he will be staying in GL for "A" School, he will call you after he checks in at the TSC on the day of PIR, which takes about 3-5 hours, and will have Liberty until Liberty expires that night at 10, but must return about 30 minutes before to give him time to get to his barracks. Then he will have daytime Liberty (pick up 6:30 or 7 am and drop off 9:30 pm or so) each day of the weekend.
If his "A" School is somewhere else, he will most likely fly out the day after PIR. Only he will know his flight arrangements for certain (he'll be told in the last week or so of BC). He will have Liberty from about 10:30 am when Liberty is called following PIR until sometime in the evening (usually around 8 to 9 pm) and he will need to be back at the RTC about a half hour before Liberty expires to be certain to get back to the ship on time. He will let you know what airport he will fly out of and when so you can meet him at the airport and spend time with him before his flight and give him his cell phone, laptop, and other things that will fit in his black backpack.
In the meantime, join the group, DEP-Leavin' for Boot Camp in February. I see you have joined Girlfriends, Fiances,and Wives of Sailors; there will be a lot of support for you there.
Your future Sailor may want to join http://www.navydep.com to learn the ins and outs from the DEP point of view. Craig runs that and will steer you to some good links on there.

I won't be required to have an adult with me? His family won't be attending...which is one of the reasons I feel like I should go.
So if he has to leave for "A" school, then he only has one day of Liberty and if he needs to stay in Illinois for "A" school, he gets a whole weekend of Liberty? He is going to be an electrician, is there anyway to know if he will have to stay or leave? Thanks so much for the information, I really appreciate it!:)

No, you don't need anyone with you. You need to know the name of his rating. There is Electrician's Mate (EM), Aviation Electrician's Mate (AE), and Construction Electrician (CE). They each have "A" School at different locations.

Em goes to A school in Great Lakes.
Many hotels will not rent to you if you are not 18. You can book into the Navy Lodge in your sailor's name to avoid that hassle. It is a good thing he will be going back to base each night, even though you are his girlfriend, he could get into trouble for spending the night with an underage girl! The Navy is oddly strict that way. But otherwise, you should be okay. You should carry a letter from your parents saying they know where you are and what you're doing. Best to be prepared!

I knew that she couldn't rent a car, but I didn't know about not being able to get a hotel room at her age. The Navy Lodge is probably the cheapest option anyway. That's a good idea to have the letter as well; it's always good to be prepared and not need something than to not have something and need it.

Hmmm...I don't know his the name if his rating.
But I will be sure to ask him! I wouldn't be too comfortable staying in a hotel by myself anyways...Although my parents definitely wouldn't be comfortable with my boyfriend staying the night with me, haha. I think my grandmother would come with me, since she lives in the area, so either we would get a hotel together, or I would find out a way to get in the Navy Lodge with her. Will I have pass writing privileges at seventeen since I have an ID card?
The letter is a great idea, I would not have thought of that...I will need to remember to have my parents write one when the time comes.

I don't understand what you mean by "Will I have pass writing privileges at seventeen since I have an ID card?" Your future Sailor can be the sponsor for you and your grandmother to stay at the Navy Lodge. You will just have to give his name and division number when making the reservations when the time comes.
Since you have a military dependent ID card, you may also be able to stay at the Navy Gateway Inns & Suites on the main base (it is not on the RTC).
Those are things to check out once he is actually at the RTC and you have a PIR date.
If your grandmother goes with you, be sure that your Future Sailor knows that and puts her name on the Access List as well.

"pass privileges" = escort her grandmother onto base. Not needed fro PIR of you are both on his list.

I meant if I was going to be able to escort my grandma on base. But if she is on the list, then I won't have to worry about it... And thank you so much for the information about Navy Lodging! I'm sure it will save a lot of money and time. I just need to convince my mom to let me go...

I hope it all works out for you in the spring. It's good that you are checking things out early so you can put the money back and have everything in place that you will need to be able to share this special time with him if that is what you both want.
