Can anyone give me some advise on a graduation gift? My daughter is graduating on April 30th. Some input on what to wear and how early to go, and anything else that might be helpful for that special day. Thanks

Wow - LOTS of questions!! Most of the answers are on here.
First, you need to click here and join this group.

OK - gift? I suggest a good camera to record her new adventures! Some are giving jewelry or a watch - but a watch has to be under certain regulations for them to wear while in uniform.

How early? Arrive in Chicago the night before - you need to leave for the base early Friday morning. I suggest taking shuttle from the hotel - MUCH FASTER and EASIER!

What to wear? Dress nice but comfortable!

Anything else - just ask! I mainly suggest just reading and asking. Have you met up with people from the same PIR group yet?
My sailor's PIR is the same day! I have a friend who's brother just graduated Navy bootcamp as well and he gave me some great info.

the weather keeps flucuating over there, so what myself and my sailor's family is doing is packing the night before we leave to see what the weather is suppose to be like. Most likely I'm going to personally be wearing black dickies (they look like slacks), and then a nice top and jacket. Graduating is at 930am, and my friend told me to get there at the gate like 2 hours early so that you can get your spot that you want in front of the division seating so that we can get pics of our sailors. The line is suppose to be forever to get through the gate, and they do random vehicle inspections. Also, if your sailor is a grad n go (our group was suppose to get their orders this last sunday so we will know soon in letters or in the phone call after battlestations) so if your sailor is leaving the friday of graduation, I was told that we can go the day before and get a guest pass for the airport that they are shipping to their A school from so that we can spend some more time with them. otherwise, just remember to bring a camera and tissues!! i've been youtubing some graduation videos and its really heart touching! hope that helps :)
Wheeler85, thanks for all the info. I too will be wearing some sort of pant suit, hopefully the ceremony will be indoors. My daughter will remain for an additional 20 weeks for schooling and will have the weekend to spend with us. Crossing fingers for nice weather :)
