For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed. Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.
**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.
**UPDATE 7/29/2021** You now must be fully vaccinated in order to attend PIR:
In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Please note! Changes to this guide happened in October 2017. Tickets are now issued for all guests, and all guests must have a ticket to enter base. A separate parking pass is no longer needed to drive on to base for parking.

They recommend you pay a little more and buy the refundable tickets. The majority of recruits finish on time - but it only takes ONE to mess up your plans - YOURS!

My son is graduating this friday and we booked our flight a little over a week ago so we booked aprox. 2.5 weeks defore his pir date. We keep checking all the airlines and the rates and at that point we were pretty confident in our son from his letters. He sounded strong and healthy and was moving forward with no problems that he wrote to us about. We did not buy refundable tickets but am pretty sure if we had to change the date the airline would have allowed us the chance to change for maybe just a small fee if any. We went with southwest. If for any reason your son won't graduate 9/2 he will call you immediately, so if I were you I'd go ahead and book everything
He may be getting a call home in a week or two (the 3rd week "I'm still alive" call)
Look for the area code 847 and id will say payphone. He does have a calling card right? If not, he can buy one at the NEX...so no biggie.
But, PLEASE join your PIR group....you'll get tons of info about what to do and what's going on with his group

Thank-you all SO MUCH for the great tips. I just booked a flight with Southwest as these flights are changeable with no "change fee", so it made a lot of sense! I would have never thought of it if I didn't ask on this forum. I did join the PIR group.
I really appreciate all the help....one less thing to worry about!

Listen to Hoppi. My son's appendix ruptured two weeks before PIR, setting him back maybe 5-6 weeks. (He's still recuperating.) Up until that point, he was doing fine, and we didn't have any reason to doubt that he would be graduating on time. Really--you never know what might happen.
We're just lucky we are within driving distance.

I had the same problem and had to pay for 2 tickets. The best advice I can give is fly Southwest Airlines. They are excellent with changing dates and giving you a "credit" to use another time. Luckily we did not have to change flights for graduation, but we have had to change dates for liberty time, personal vacations, etc. It is the best way to go and at times we had a $25 fee. If you explain to Southwest Airlines rep this is a military graduation or liberty leave they may waive the fee. We had our fee waived on a last minute liberty change.
