For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Great Lakes Apartments/ Moving
My husband is an IC and will be in A school for the next 5-6 months... could be longer with holds/more schooling.
We'll be moving on our own since we're not staying long enough for the Navy to move us.
We're blindly looking for apartments in the area. We have a child and a baby on the way. We need a 2-3 bedroom one in a nice area. Hopefully under $1,100/month.
Any suggestions?
Any moving tips? This is our first time.

Honestly, you may have a difficult time finding an apartment of that size in a good location here for that price. My husband is stationed at Great Lakes and we had a difficult time finding a home with what they were giving us for BAH so we ended up moving into a military housing community (which unfortunately would not be an option for you if you aren't on orders to be up here). Some places that are nice/safe that are a little more on the affordable side would be Grayslake or Vernon Hills. I've also heard nice things about Mundelein. The cost of living here can be rather high so be sure you've budgeted for that. The north shore of Chicago is a rather affluent area and everything is priced accordingly! Good luck with your move!

I am sorry I don't have an answer for you but I am curious. I wanted to do the same thing, my husband A-school is in pensacola. We live in NY so our BAH is pretty high but I wanted to know if we will get in trouble for putting our apartment in storage and moving to pensacola? I have a 4 month old and it's important for her to know her dad. He left when she was 7 weeks and when we went to GL, she screamed when he held her. He was crushed because they were close for the 1st 7 weeks but she can't remember him :(
