My son is determined to enlist. He has had an interest in Corpsman and SWCC and after talking to a recruiter he is leaning more towards SWCC. My feelings aside ( which are mostly terrified) he seems very focused on aiming for this and taking his last year of high school to train for this option. Time is on his side really as he would be able to take full advantage of training time to be in the best shape possible. Im mostly looking to hear form other moms whose kids may have taken this route of SWCC and what their and your experiences have been. How does anyone sleep at night for instance, just the thought of it had me up all night last night and I want nothing more than to put my fears and concerns aside and be 100% fully supportive, I juts need a mom perspective. Can anyone help me out here?
My oldest son was a SWCC he retired after 21 yrs which was about 10yrs ago. One thing I found was I never knew when he left so never had to worry. He was rated a Gunners Mate ended up being a boat captain of a Mark V his job was insertion and extraction of a SEAL team. To him his greatest accomplishment was that all his men came home with him. There are many jobs and he may never go out but it is rewarding and challenging for the right person. Honestly we moms would worry no matter what they did.
Does it help to mention a very low percentage of those going through BUDS, actually make it? Most end up doing something else less in the line of fire.
Your son should be taking the ASVAB and getting his physical soon. He will know exactly where he stands..............google: SWCC
