Hello everyoneI

My son is stationed near Seattle Washington. We, (his family) live in the D.C. area. My wife and I met in the Navy, I served 10 years, she served 4. My Our oldest son was in the navy as a Cryptologist, My youngest daughter is preparing to go in the Naval Officers program...All of us!

Over the passed 3 years I have been battling with cancer, specifically the cancer treatments. I have PTSD from when I was a police officer. and I take 5 meds for malignant hypertension, and I have other disabling illnesses'... I sleep a lot.

My son explained all of this to his chain of command, and he was assured that he would transfer from Sub school in Connecticut to Norfolk Virginia.  They plan to close the Sub base in Va, so they sent him to upstate Washington, the furthest distance from me on the US continent.

He does not qualify for the hardship discharge because of the family members. We don't want him to get out, we just want him close.

He on a sub, which means, when I pass away, he could be underwater.

When I was in the Navy, we were in Japan. they granted emergency leave, I flew home, from half way around the world, for my grandfathers funeral, I missed the funeral...

Who can I write to, email, or contact, to request that he gets a transfer, to be closer to home, to wait with rest of us.

Thank you

James W.

Your son needs to request a Humanitarian Transfer.  He has to show he needs to provide support which no one else can, and it must be other than financial and morale.  I am not sure you can facilitate this, it must be from the active duty member.

Here is  the regulation:
