My son left for boot camp the end of July and although we've had several letters from him, we haven't had any phone calls.  It was my understanding that he'd be able to call 2 to 3 weeks into basic training -- but no phone calls.

Also, as of this date  I don't even know if he's passed all his requirements.  (he had pneumonia and this put him behind)  We leave for Chicago Wednesday morning for the graduation Friday morning.  It would be good to know if he's passed before we leave for such a long trip.

Has anyone else had any phone calls?  Anyone the latest time to find out if one's son/daughter has met all graduation requirements?

There is no set number of calls a Recruit will be able to make. Most make the "I'm here" call soon after arriving at the RTC. All Sailors will make one or more calls to say, "I'm a Sailor!" That last call can happen anytime in the last week or so before PIR. Some could earn one or more calls each week beginning in about week 3. If the Recruit's Division is doing very well, then the Recruits in that Division will earn more calls.

In the Navy, "No news is good news." Your Recruit will be permitted to contact you almost immediately if something goes wrong--failed test or illness or injury that will set him back, and if the Recruit cannot, the Navy will.  If he hasn't told you that he is delayed, then he will have PIR on Friday unless he doesn't pass something between now and then, which does happen at times and then you WILL get a call.

Join the group, PIR 9/16/11 TG 44: 13 DIVISIONS (303-314, 944), to connect with others with loved ones who are training with your SR,  I also suggest you join New Moms Stop Here and check out the Pages and Discussions there.

Thank you so much for your reply!   Your answer was reassuring -- so I guess I'll hang tight for now...we're in the home stretch!
Although this is unusual, it's not unheard of. Ditto "No news is good news." He must be so busy he doesn't have time to call.

I had only 3 calls.. the "I'm here " call... a call about 3 weeks into bc and the "I'm a Sailor" call...  My daughters RDC's weren't big into phone calls.. I heard other div. got several calls home. It depends on his div./RDC's and how they are rewarded.  Plus, if his div. got calls home and he had watch, he would have missed it..

As always, no news is good news, is the rule.  If you are leaving Wed. for PIR you should be getting the "I'm a Sailor" call... if you don't get that call, I'd start inquiring as to what is going on.

thanks that was helpful!
