Welcome MAV! The boot camp group is the place to find answers. There's lots of good info posted there and a timeline of events. Keep in mind things have been a little wonky with covid but you can get an idea. You can expect the letter around the 4 week mark - give or take. Nothing is set in stone lol. Once you receive the "official" letter you'll know your son's PIR (graduation) date and you can join the group for that. You should be looking at a January PIR.
Hang in there - and remember, no news is good news!
I Just left some information on your page. I hope you will find it useful. You are at the start of the Great Silence. Join us on the Bootcamp moms main page and you will find many supportive ladies (and a few Gents) who are in the same boat you are. (Or they have recently navigated these waters and will help you chart your path)
We haven't lost a Mom to Boot camp, we won't start with you!
MAV - You have joined the boot camp group - when you look at your page - about halfway down you'll see the groups you are in. One of them is Boot Camp. Click on the picture/icon and that will take you directly to the boot camp group. There's lots of info on that page - at the top there's lots of good info "Answers to Common Questions" posted and you can scroll down and you will see the chatter from members. That's where you'll post your questions. There's also "pages" to the right of the group that you can click on for more info. Don't be afraid to look around - you'll find lots of valuable info!
Click on this link (It was also in the information I posted on your page.) You will have to scroll down past a lot of information (Read it when you get a chance) and you'll find the comment wall. Feel free to share a bit about yourself (Keep it very General... No Personally Identifying info) and ask your questions. If you over share don't worry... We'll help you learn OPSEC and PERSEC (As well as explain what that means.... it's in the info as well) Sorry I was not on all day. I have other obligations and can't always be on here.
Trixie -- Welcome!! First.... Take a Deep breath in......... Let it out........ Another in.......... and out!!! I KNOW this is hard to hear but you are in the middle of the Great silence, Your SR Is progressing right on pace and the fact that you have NOT heard from him is a GOOD thing! No News IS Good News!!
Please read my blog to give you an idea of what the first few weeks may look like.. First Things First-- The Quarantine Edition You will come to learn that everything is Needs of the Navy. Your life will be Hurry Up and Wait and it’s ok to make plans but they are subject to change until after they have happened so it’s best to embrace the Navy Mom Motto: Semper Gumby!! (Always Flexible!!)
You do not say if your SR was fully vaccinated before they left. I'm guessing not, so the expected timeline will look like this:
Day 0 -- Travel, Arrival and "I'm Here" scripted phone call (Oct 19)
Day 1-14 -- ROM (Restriction of Movement/ Quarantine-- Lots of studying and waiting) Unless they are Fully Vaccinated (2 weeks after final shot) in which case they skip straight to Week 3.( Ended Nov 2)
Day 15-21 Arrive Onboard RTC and begin P-days (P-days- Initial Processing Days) including 2 days of P-hold (Weekend) (Nov 3-9)
Day 21-- Complete P days. (Initial PFT & Run)
Week 4- First week of training (You are Here!!)
Day 22-- Begin training and mail form letter out. Look for it to arrive around 1-2 weeks later (Write letters so they are ready to go as soon as you get his address (Make copies and number them just in case any go missing))
Week 5 -- First inspections and tests (Dental May be this week or next... Not Confirmed)(Form letter/ Personal letters usually arrive this week)
Week 6 -8 -- More training, Drilling (Flags and Marching), Fire Fighting training, Marlinspike (Line handling- How to tie up a Ship to the Pier) and weapons lessons, Confidence chamber( May or may not be happening yet, we don’t know for sure).. Warrior training in here somewhere.
Week 9 & 10 -- Stressful!! They have all their final inspections, PFA, Drills, BS21 and Tests. This is the lead up to the end!!
Possible Weeks 11 & 12 -- We have heard that there is some New training that is More about life skills not just being a sailor that are being added. This is NOT confirmed for all groups at this time but please be aware that it may be true for your SR.
All of this is assuming no exposure to COVID with additional ROM
Training typically occurs Monday - Friday with Saturday and Sunday being Hold days (NO New material is taught)
I Hope you’ll come and join us on the Main Boot Camp Moms page: https://navyformoms.ning.com/group/bootcampmoms You may have to scroll down a ways to reach the comments but we’d love to get to know you and answer any questions or concerns you may have or just be a support from others who “get it”.
I Know you are desperate for information but Trust the process. He's safe, being fed and looked after (After a fashion) and you and he will get through this!!
