I'm another mom coming up for the Dec. 16 graduation. We are driving from the Nashville area. Do you have recommendations of a cheap, yet decent hotel? Is there usually a lot of snow there in December, or does it come after Christmas? I hate to sound dumb, but I've never been to that area, and the weather has been unusually warm for this fall, so I have no clue. Will we need snow tires? Chains? Thanks for your help!
Call the Navy Lodge now and book reservations. Give them your SR's name and rank.
We don't use chains up here (I live 30/45 min from the base)...my tires are all weather tires..so they work in the snow...what I would recommend you do if driving up here is get your car/truck checked out before you come here just to make sure you don't have a break down...
I live up here and drive all the time, we keep the basics in the Jeep at all times, jumper cables, basic tools, extra belt, H2o, antifreeze, windshield washer fluid (this is a really big one as you don't want to not have any with all the slush that can splash on the windows from the snow), blanket, flairs, small hand held heaters and snacks...ummm..can you tell I grew up in the country, lol!
Snow can come anytime up here...make sure you dress warm as you will be walking to get to the PIR building...also don't wear heals, wear shoes/boots you can walk in and not slip.
As far as cheap places to stay...Navy lodge is good and close to the base...but I am sure there are others that are good..my only thing is I would say stay away from the Ramada...that hotel is gehto!!
Thanks very much for the tips!
