For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Hi, I'm a new wife and have a few questions about PDS and DEERS?? Well, lots of questions.
Hi,
My husband is going to boot camp in 3 weeks! After that, schooling in Mississippi for a few months. How far into boot camp or A school will it be before he knows where he will be stationed?
After he finds out where he is stationed is that going to be his Permanent Duty Station?
How long will he be stationed there?
Can I go with him directly to his PDS or is there some kind of waiting period?
Also, do new recruits like him have to live on base for awhile or can I just go down there, get a place to live and he can live with me right away?
My other question is if he doesn't sign me up for DEERS now, can he sign me up later?
Is there an open enrollment period where I would have to wait to be signed up if he doesn't sign me up when he joins the Navy?
Thank you. I know I have a lot of questions, but all of this is confusing to me.

Since he has a contract for a particular rating, he will find out his first duty station near the end of his "A" School. Yes, that is his PDS and he will be there for as long as the billet is for, which can vary depending on the location, usually from 1 to 3 years. Since you are married, he may be able to have accompanied orders so that you can go with him very soon after he is stationed there.
Married Sailors with accompanied orders are able to live off base with their spouses.
He will be able to sign you up for DEERS at BC. The Page, When Will the Recruits be Paid? and Information for Spouses, will give you more information on that.
You may wish to join the group, DEP-Leavin for bootcamp in September. You will meet others with loved ones leaving that day/week who may be in the same TG and have PIR together. Be sure to check out the discussion, Things to Do in the Last Month Before Your Future Sailor Leaves for.... I also suggest you join Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) and begin checking out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) and Discussions there. You may also want to join Girlfriends, Fiances, and Wives of Sailors.
Your future Sailor may want to join http://www.navydep.com to learn the ins and outs from the DEP point of view. Craig runs that and will steer him to some good links on there.
