My son is getting leave for Christmas. When his leave was approved he was told it would start at 5 am. I booked his flight for 7 am that day to come home. Since then he was told that they couldn't leave until after 10 am. Then they had a meeting and were told if they already had flight tickets they could leave but to make sure they booked a shuttle. Then after that he was told they could leave base before 10 am but couldn't fly out until after 10am. He is so confused and doesn't know what he is allowed to do. Can anyone confirm what time they are permitted to leave base and fly out of Chicago?

Even if his leave started at 5 am, he would not make it to any of the airports and get to the gate by 7 am. It is the holidays, it takes hours to get through security at any of the airports around Great Lakes. I would change his flight to later in the afternoon. Also they can book the shuttle but if it is filled it is filled, and they will have to take the next one...
Your Sailor is the one who needs to confirm this information NOW...he can not wait until the last minute and think they will help him get to the airport and get his flight by 7 am. It is his leave, utilmalty the shuttle is just a nice thing the command is doing for the students and is much cheaper than a taxi, but if he has to take a taxi so he knows he will get there when he needs to and not depend on the shuttle then he should do that, but again HE will be paying for it.
Again HE needs to talk to the staff in the barracks he lives in, not the school house as they are two different commands and his leave went though the barracks he lives in.
thanks for your response, he is definitely confused with people telling him different things. I don't think he likes to ask questions either. I will change his flight to a later time, although the airline is asking for his commanding officer's name, phone, address and rank to waive the change fee. I don't think he is able to give that out, so I guess I will be paying $200 to change it. This is all new to us and we have a lot to learn!
