Some moms recommended Sarge's Taxi. We are not renting a car because we are not fond of big, unfamiliar city traffic! We have PIR on October 7. We are flying in to Milwaukee. If anyone wants to share a taxi/cost from airport or to the airport in the early morning hours before they ship out, let me know. He has reasonable rates and others have said his service is super.

hey im travelling that day also and would like to share the cost

I'm trying to find a good hotel for me and my little girl my SR graduates 7/30 and we are flying in to O'hare. & i can't rent a car because im not at the age too, and i wanted a shuttle to and from graduation and since hes staying in GL i wanted to see how we can go pick him up ? We just want to hang out at our hotel  .. Any suggestions ? thanks in advance :)

I heard that this taxi service is great. He has been recommended by several others that have been on this site.

Gives specials for military and their families. Also will steer you in the right direction for restaurants and anything else you might need.

Sarges taxi : 847-212-0246

Just booked a room at the Quality Inn in Waukegan. Price was great and more importantly there were VERY friendly on the phone. Also have a free shuttle to and from PIR. Lots of other amenities, for $55 a night.

Where are any of you staying?

Our son graduates on Dec. 16th at Great lakes and we don't now the area. Any suggestions on hotels? I would greatly appreciate it. thanks

call Navy lodge and make reservation 847 689 1485,they closer to base and have all information you need for that day

Best is if you make reservation at Navy Lodge in Great lakes , this is close and the best place for all information that you  need for that day , they have special 20%off , you have  make reservation on line or call 847 689 1485, if you have any quastion just ask me I will be more that happy to help

Well I've actually been living out in Great Lakes for the past month now.

Starting to get very familiar with the area!

For the PIR I flew in to Midway and rented a car.

I would suggest renting a car.. I found dollar rental was the best way for me.

I paid quite the pretty penny (under 25 fee, bleh.) and it was still completely worth it.

I stayed at The Red Carpet Inn... This hotel is what you pay for.

Honestly I have no real complaints other than avoid the restaurant next door.

this hotel is a lil run down and 'cheap'

Though it is VERY close to the base and a straight shot to the PIR

Basically, it works.

I would more so suggest staying in Gurnee though!

Currently I'm staying at the Extended Stay America and it's wonderful!

Not super high class by any means... and there's no pool and such.

(so basically not that place the kids would LOVE)

Though I have a full kitchen, minus a oven. Which is great if you don't like eating out a lot!

I have my 60lbs Huskey with me! So if you have a furry critter your SR would love to see this is the place to come!

The staff is AMAZING.

It's very quick and easy for me to get to the base.. only a few minutes away.

Free passes to Gold's Gym (which is pretty nice and right across the road)

Also it's walking distance to some great restaurants (Outback, olive garden, Ihop) Gas station, bar with a great selection of beer.

Then there's Wal-mart, best buy, Gurnee Mills Mall maybe a mile away.

Basically anything and everything you could possibly want!

There's a few other hotels right in this lil cluster too.

I would highly recommend researching staying in Gurnee.

I make the drive to the base all the time and It's very quick to get to.. only time I meet traffic is around 5pm heading back to the hotel.

I wish I would have stayed out here the weekend of PIR! There's sooo much more to do :]

P.S. bring quarters! There's coin tolls every where!

it was suggested to me from my neighbor who's son graduated Labor Day weekend to stay at Navy Lodge it is about 1 1/2 mile from bootcamp and they called a cab the night before graduation was assigned a cab # and the next morning the cab took them right to the gate with no problems not sure what the cab fee was but it was pretty cheap I thougth any way.  Hope is helpful

Lodging for March 8 - 11 2012 - for $198 total no tax. Property:  NAVY LODGE GREAT LAKES - Telephone:  847-689-1485 - Number of Nights:   3 - Room Type:  2 QUEEN BEDS w/Kitchen - Number of Rooms:   1.

I also found a rental car for $183  for March 8 - 12 20012 ( round trip from TN ) vehicle type: standard/mid size SUV  with unlimited miles from thrifty car rental.

I'm still telling my wife I'd rather just take our SUV & save  $ ( as long as it don't break down lol), but I may lose this fight unless I say "then you drive from Spring hill,TN to Lake county,IL"  I just want you to relax, enjoy the scenery & let me worry about everything honey.  LOL

   I hope this helps.

Has anyone stayed at the Springhill Suites,  I am ex-Army and a little afraid of cheap hotels.  I know exactly what goes on over the weekend.  Major parties.  I want a quiet hotel.  I thought about the Springhill Suites of Hilton.  Do they all offer shuttles to base?
