Not yet my son's PIR is May 7th and we will be staying there in 2b 2b suite. Word of advice book there asap if that is where you are interested in staying. The rate for a 1b 1b suite jumped from around $80 to $160 as it has gotten closer to our check in date. And those are the AAA discount rates. I chose to stay there based on reviews on this site and on.tripadvisor.com. I liked the idea of having a full kitchen room so if my son feels like home cooking I can oblige and a living room for the family to hang out in. (When you are looking into flight check the prices to Milwaukee (MKE) the prices can be cheaper and it is suppose to be an easier drive)
We're staying at the ramada. PIR date is may 7th. This hotel has a meet and greet and shuttle to graduation. We are staying Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights for $267! Not a bad deal!
We are staying at the Residence Inn Chicago/Lake Forrest/ Mettawa for May, 7th 2010, PIR it is a bit pricey but am staying in a 2b/2b suite with a kitchen and living area also.
that's where I plan on staying. My son's PIR is June 25. Did you like it and how was the drive from the hotel to the graduation?

I loved this hotel very very clean and staff was friendly and knowledgable. Rooms are updated and nice. Your hotel is on Town line Rd. Get off on this exit (off I94) and go left over the over pass make a right at first light (if your coming from the south, if your coming from the north go right). They have a indoor pool, a barbeque area, pool table and gym, and breakfast every morning. If your room has a kitchen and you intend to cook (or just need some munchies) you can leave the front desk a grocery list and they will shop for you and return it to your room at no extra cost. The ride to the base was very easy. You go back out to toll rd (I94) north bound. Keep lots of quarters because every time you get on the toll rd at Townline it cost .50 and when you get off the toll road when you return to your room it costs .50. You go north towards Wisconsin and I think it may be less than 5 miles and only 2 exits to Buckley Rd. Get off at this exit go right or east and it will take you right to the base. It is a very easy drive. When your road narrows down to 2 lanes you want to be in the right lane. There will be signs welcoming parents to graduation, the first fenced in area you will see is the VA hospital go past that. (I made that mistake lol) Entrance to the base is a little further down on a slight curve. Gates open at 6:30 I suggest you go early, we left the hotel at 6:30 and it was plenty of time. They will park you and then you will have to get in line to check in be sure you have ID. Make sure you go online before you leave home 11 days before graduation and get your parking pass you will need this at the gate. It takes less than15 minutes to get to the base from the hotel. Bring your camera you will definately want to take alot of pictures it is a fabulous ceremony. Tissue too. If you go back to your room and go west on Townline you will run into Vernon Hills. Lots of shopping and restaurants. Less than 10 minutes from your hotel. You will come up to a cross road called Milwakee Ave. If you go left (or south) it will take you to Lincolnshire just maybe 5 miles down there is a huge Theater and an IMAX we took my son to see Iron Man 2. Every day my son came he took a long hot shower, I brought comfy clothes to lounge in, they must wear there Navy clothes out in public but in the room they can lounge (including the pool area he must have Navy issued trunks to swim). The NEX on Green Bay road is nice too. Congratulations to you and yours I am so very happy for you. Very soon you will see you child and you will be amazed it is an awesome ceremony. If I can be of further assistance let me know. My son is now at A school and it is a different world all together. Take care
Thank you so much. This is great information! We're eager to see our daughter. I'll definitely bring a box of tissues.
I heard from some of our SF Bay Area Navy Families members that Residence Inn was very good. Hope you will drop a note on the group's page after your daughter's PIR. We have a number of meet and greet in the Bay area. Check out the Our Photo Album to see photos of our May 2 event in San Bruno. Best of luck to your sailor. Link to our local group is below.

Thank you for the advice. We were undecided btwn Residence Inn and SpringHill Suites. We ended up choosing SpringHill due to our sleeping arrangements. I was not aware of the meet-n-greet this past Sunday. Although we could not have made it due to our sons Track Finals. Perhaps a future date.

I will definitely share our experience during our daughters PIR.

thanks again
Lysa
Lysa, please go the the SF Bay page, read through the tips on PIR in one of the discussions - see link above. Sometimes it is helpful to get suggestions from people who are from the same area. While you are there, join the group - post a comment and ask if anyone has special suggestions (if you need after reading the discussion comments). I know in January we had 6 who went to PIR. Also Rebecca is going to PIR for May 14. So she have up-to-date info for you. We have many meets and greets, so I am sure we'll see you at one of them.
You must be proud and getting excited. :)
oh we truly are. Every day we get more and more anxious. Cant wait!
We stayed at the Residence Inn for our 2nd sailor (PIR May 7, 2010). It was nice. We had the 1 bd, with the pull out sofa. It had a decent continental breakfast that came with the room, which also had bisquit and gravy, waffles, even strawberry toppings for the waffles (it was one of those belgian waffle makers). The room had a stove, microwave, dishwasher, full size refridgerator, and the dishes. It was convienent to have some of the stuff we liked. Oh, the pool and jacuzzi was closed. I'm not sure when they open it. We had the Navy rate for the first night which was higher than the AAA the last 2 nights.

We stayed at the Courtyard for our 1st PIR (August 15, 2008). It was a standard room with two queen beds. The breakfast was a buffet and not included in the room. It cost an additional $8 back then. The pool and jacuzzi worked, but different seasons.

We are heading back for another PIR in July, and will probably stay at the Residence Inn for our first choice, and Courtyard for our second.

Mo- wasn't it awesome? Our sailors were outstanding.
