So my fiance is graduating from Great Lakes RTC on the 21st of June. I'm planning on going up there with his brother and sister, who are both minors, and I can not find a single hotel any were nearby! I checked the Navy Lodge and they are booked solid during that weekend. Does anyone know of any hotels near the base? And would it be better to take taxis/shuttles or rent a car? This is going to be my first time visiting Illinois so I need all the help I can get.

There were suggestions in the info that came with the form letter. You will also find suggestions within the discussion, Recommended Places to Stay, within PIR Reference Information. There are pros and cons for both the taxi/shuttle and rental car. Renting a car give you more freedom and there are sometimes good deals for the weekend that make it cheaper, especially if your Sailor stays in GL for "A" School. What will his rating (job specialty) be? That will help to determine where he goes for "A" School or training and there are groups for most of the "A" Schools and/or ratings.

Did you check with the Navy Gateway Inns & Suites? It is located on the main part of the base, about 1.5 miles from RTC. Your SR can be your sponsor for you to stay there, but if you stay there it would be best if you had a rental car because taxis cannot drive onto the base. http://dodlodging.net or 1-877-NavyBed (1-877-628-9233). There are also some restrictions because it is on base, but the cost is good and the location is very close.

Join the group, PIR 06/21/2013 TG 32 9 Divisions (229-236 and 932),to connect with others with loved ones training with your SR.  You may also want to join, or at least check out, Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones), Girlfriends, Fiances, and Wives of Sailors, PIR Reference Information, and New Members Stop Here. There will be a lot of great information and support for you in those groups as well as in the PIR group. Be sure to check out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) and Discussions within the groups.
