Can any one recommend hotels that offer shuttle service to the bootcamp graduation ceremony.  I am reading some horror stories about trying to drive onto the base and would like to avoid that if possible.

The holiday Inn offers a great shuttle service to and from graduation at no charge if you are staying at the hotel. They even allow your Sailors to ride back with you to the hotel if they have liberty right after graduation. Driving there is not so bad I myself took the earliest shuttle available which left the hotel @5:45am we got to the base at about 6am and the line for the vehicles was already stretching around the corner . This was last week's pir of 3/25/16

Thank you!!!  Do they offer breakfast in the AM?  I guess all hotels do now..

My sailor graduates April 29th.

Is that normal? What time is graduation? My daughter just left for boot camp yesterday so I am not sure when graduation will be.

Hi Momofamermaid.  Your daughter left on the 29th?  So did my son!  This is my second go-round.  One of my other sons went through PIR 4 years ago.  I booked the Residence Inn nearby back then.  They offered a shuttle, and I remember being extremely pleased with it.

What city is the holiday Inn
Graduation usually starts at 9am I believe but most people start arriving at 6am or before if they are driving themselves. Due to the fact that seating is first come first serve and there is usually quite a bit of people . Also the holiday Inn hotel is located in Waukegan, Illinois and is about 15 min from the base. Let me know if you have any more questions I'm more than happy to help if I can .
I work for Marriott, and know we have 3 hotels near GL that offer navy graduation rates and shuttle to PIR. (More just a little further, without the shuttle). Just ask for navy graduation rate when you call. (Pretty sure you still have to call for that rate - not available online.) I was a Marriott fan before I ever worked for the company, and like it more now! The springhill suites is the first to fill up, because they have rooms with 2 beds plus the pull-out couch, and breakfast included. Definitely book as soon as you know, because there are only so many rooms available at the discount. If you are booking the navy grad rate direct through marriott, there is no advance payment required, and it is cancellable until the day before. Sorry to sound like an ad! I have booked a lot of rooms for these and can't wait to get to stay there celebrating my sailor!

We stayed at the Sleep Inn while there beginning of month,. The shuttle service was excellent as was the Elite taxi service that is affiliated with Sleep Inn. There was a simple breakfast provided. The room was rather clean however the beds in the room were horrible. The springs were poking out everywhere. The hotel wasn't in walking distance to much....a gas station that had a very small Dunkin Donuts inside, a equally small McDonalds and across the highway a 24 hr diner.

Do you know what rates would be?

I booked awhile ago, but the Navy Grad rate at the Residence Inn (which doesn't have shuttle service) was $95/night (with breakfast included). I think the courtyard, which does have shuttle and is only like 3 miles away is like $129/night.  Just remember to ask for the navy grad rate when you call.
