My son ( 18 ) and independent yes, yet still lonely.. is literally across the US from me, but in a huge city so I know there are plenty of families or people who would " adopt a soldier " help him, like invite him over for dinner, over for Christmas or Thanksgiving..or take him a cake on his birthday, watch football with, go to church, etc.. ( of course...all goodies paid for by me .. lol ) but I want to connect with someone.. that he can hang out with..he is on a small base with 2 friends .. :( How do I help ?
Im comparing myself with a close friend who already made a connection in another state. A family has adopted her son and its been great.. ( had him over for thanksgiving, had fun, bday outing..etc )
Any advice? This was my sole purpose for joining...but I know I will benefit in other ways :)

Is your son at Great Lakes? Or is he out of boot camp already?

He is out of boot camp. Praise the Lord. He graduated in October. Whew..boot camp was ....well not fun ( for me anyway- lol ) LOVED graduation day.... lol.. :) and our 5hrs together..but it was an emotional rollercoaster.. he left again that night.

There are lots of churches of different denominations on base, he could get involved with one of those, which could lead to a connection.   Often the families of the more senior sailors take in the single guys.

Ok..Thanks, thats something Im exploring..and praying for..
Maybe the best place to start is posting where your son is and maybe there is a Mom nearby
