Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed. Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.
**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.
**UPDATE 7/29/2021** You now must be fully vaccinated in order to attend PIR:
In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

How do you all do this?
Hi I am new to the site my son will be leaving in 5 hours and 5 minutes to start his adventure at Great Lakes boot camp and I am a mess. I have so many emotions and I feel like nothing I do is gonna truly prepare me for this. Don't get me wrong I am so very proud of him and I can see that I have raised an amazing young man but letting go... not sure I'm ready for it. My son is 18 and this has always been his dream but he also is the father of a 1 year old little girl and I'm not sure how she will handle his being gone either because he has been the primary caregiver for her. I have assured him that his father and I will do all we can to take care of her but I know this adjustment is going to be so hard for her. Just looking for some support and helpful advise and prayers. I look forward to building some friendships with fellow navy moms who are going through the same thing.

Hugs to you New NM. My son left 2/4 and it has been a very long week for me! I lose it at random times and then put myself back together. I am so proud to know my son is going to be a US SAILOR! But some days and some moments he is still my little boy just growing up! I have fallen on the support of the other parents going through the same as us! They have giving me the courage, hope and wonderful advice in such a time of need! It is so comforting knowing we are not the only ones going through the same emotional roller coaster! Hang in there and take care of that little one! Give that baby lots of love. Maybe record his voice on your phone for her/him and play it for them daily! I am only a week in and I am hoping this time until PIR Flys by! Hugs momma! !

So if my son is at Meps today and leaves for great lakes tomorrow arriving by about 1PM when should I expect the "I have arrived phone call"? I just wanna make sure I don't miss it.

Totally depends. Don't panic. We got ours around 11PM. Understand now that you are entering Navy time. You may or may not get calls during Boot Camp, and don't make any assumptions based on this. Remember, no news is good news.
Start writing letters now with questions or thoughts. Number the outside of the envelopes so your SR knows what order to read them. You may not have an address for the first 10 days.
They all appreciate getting mail.

I received my call at 1:28 this afternoon was short with the details but I did get to sqeeze in a I love you son and he said I love you mom and just like that call ended. I am already beginning the letter writing so that should help with this sick feeling of not being able to talk to him when I want to. Thank you all for the advise.

All new members should click MY PAGE on the above menu bar. That will take you to your personal page, then scroll down after the page opens up. You'll find a comment from the Navy For Moms Admin. Within the comment you'll see a link to our Survival Guide. This comment will always be on your page: therefore, you will always have a reference on your own page. The survival guide will contact links to other discussions, like PIR groups, videos of bootcamp, the Recruit Training Command. At the bottom, you'll find some hints on how to navigate this site. I am patiently waiting for the box as well as his address I have written a letter each day since he left. I find myself wondering what he might be doing all throughout the day. I really hope to make some new friendships on here with other moms who are going through the same thing, also I have so much to learn about this whole process. Please add me as a friend, I look forward to meeting you all!

I never realized how impatient I actually was until my son left for bc. The waiting game is agonizing! When I received his box is was total mixed emotions! I would start to open it them stop, then start again then stop. I did not want to look at the only thing I had left of my little boy before he grew into a young man. I finally opened it and cried and cried. I held his favorite stocking cap that he has worn every day since it has gotten cold. I finally put it all back in the box and closed it. Have not washed anything yet because I don't want his smell to go away. I know, sounds wierd, but it's not. I still have not received his letter yet :(.

It's not wierd... I get out my daughters coat and smell and hold it whenever I need her close by. She left on the 6th and I received the box on the 11th, but did not open it till the 15th. Had to process this whole thing. When I did, I cried, but not as bad as I was when she first left. To my surprise I got the form letter the day I opened the box. Each day gets a little easier.
