For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

How long does it take to go to Boot Camp after enlisting?
Hi group. I've been a member of this group for months and keep up with the discussions daily. This is my first (of I am sure many, many to come) post.
My son is ready to enlist, despite my pleas that he go to college first. He's always had a mind of his own, which is a good thing. Anyway, once he enlists, how long does it typically take before he will leave for Boot Camp? From what I've read, it seems like it varies wildly, so I understand if you can't give a definite answer. Thanks for whatever help you can provide.

It will depend on what his job is going to be and if there are any openings available. The Navy is overmanned right now so there's often a long wait for a job slot to open up. He could go in a month or two but more likely many months. His recruiter should be able to give him a better idea.
