I have a huge question about moving w/ my husb. while he's in A-school! Can anyone give me answers?

I've been trying to ask his recruiter but can't get him to return my calls and I'm really frustrated.  I seem to get more straight forward answers on here so here we go... I've been planning (ever since the beginning) to move myself and our 2 children to Great Lakes during his A-school and C-school, I'm assuming both would be in GL but not sure.  Well, I have a friend who was been a Navy wife for 5yrs, and she told me that there would be no reason for me to move there until he's done w/ schooling b/c the Navy won't move us for free unless Earnie has his orders.  From my understanding, they told us before he left for bootcamp that his A-school would be longer than 6 months, therefore I could move up there w/ him.  I had planned on moving after my son finished kindergarden at the end of May, but now I'm worried that I'll have to wait 6-8 mths longer than I had planned.  I've already told the boys that we're going to be w/ Daddy in the summer and I would really hate to break their hearts like that.  If anyone can help me w/ some good advice I'll take it!!

When he checks into a school, he can start the process. He can arrange for the Navy to move you up there. It cannot happen during boot camp however. The biggest delay will be he has to put in a "Live Ashore" packet and get approval for him to live off base. I think they have to get through phase one of earning liberty privileges for that, but that's only a couple weeks.

Which A school? There are groups for Great Lakes and the different schools, and there are plenty of wives moving up there. Yes, many on the Navy's dime. Either search the groups on here, or one of us can help you!

Another group which can be useful:

As for being on his orders, A school straight out of boot camp seems to be different. They probably run an ORDMOD ( orders modification). Your friend is only half correct!
Ma'am,
What rate is your husband going to be? This will tell you where he is going to be stationed for A-school.
If his A-school is longer then 14 weeks then you may be authorized to move to his location. depending on his rank and the length of your stay in the area, you may only be authorized to live on base instead of out in town. Additionally even his transfer to A-school if its across the street will have him being issued a set of orders.
Ensure that wherever you go you have a military clause put into any lease that you have which should state something along the lines of when your husband is transfered on military orders you may break the lease without any payment penalty.
Regardless of where you are living your husband will be receiving BAH which is an extra allowance that he will receive in his monthly pay to pay for housing his family (needs to make sure that you are all on his page 2 (service record stuff) and in DEERs (medical stuff)).
As far as school goes the best place to contact is the local housing office on whatever base you will be stationed at. The easiest way to find this is to go to the Military One Source website and on the right hand side of the main page there is a button for planning a move. Just select the base you will be going to and one of the lists available will be a phone list on the new base including housing's number. They will be more then happy to assist you with information and advice.
Good luck,
Very Respectfully,
EMC (SS) Andy Finn
Thank you so much. Whether it comes across rude or not, I need all the help I can get. I'm learning slowly but surely what I need to do and what I do not need to do. I just wanted to give my boys some kind of reassurance. They are extremely close w/ their Dad and aren't quite sure what to think about him being gone for so long. I know they will learn to adjust eventually but right now it's especially hard for all of us. You were a huge help and I just wanted to say "Thanks"
A child that young - you might think about home schooling him for a year or so.
If you do, please make sure he interacts with other small children so he can learn social skills also!
