So, I want to enlist as a Navy Diver..I've talked to recruiters, i'd be leaving for boot around decemeber of 2012...but the thing is..i've brought them SO much info, i've been looking into this for MONTHS...at LEAST 8 months..I want to do this..this is EXACTLY what I want..they know of the benifits, and college, and all of that..but they aren't very encouraging...They kinda just say "okay"..
Also..my friends keep saying it's a waste of my life..and time....is there any ideas on how to get a little bit of support??

Thanks Corie(: I definitely will give you my address in boot..well, i'm get yours and write you then you'll have mine. Hhaha...seems easier! I'm thinking i'm going to take them out to dinner next week and sit them down..and just talk. all navy. until they understand that this really is what i want..really really!
I just got my Diver contract. Dont Listen to other people. Its your life, challenge yourself, live life, and what better way then to not only be a sailor but a United States Navy Diver. Work out. Study, go take the PST's and PASS. Maybe sometime in the future ill see you at a dive unit
Thanks Artie44. It helps to hear from someone who is a Navy Diver(:

Quick Question.- When you go to MEPS, if you aren't offered Navy Diver, but you passed everything so that you COULD be..would you suggest waiting until it IS offered..or taking another job and switching..?
Be careful with switching, that can be very iffy. When taking "another" job, be certain it is what you want to do. Be certain you understand when and how and under what specific circumstances a switch could be made. If there are any use of the words "maybe" "possibly" or "might", be very suspicious.

The switching must be done before you sign your contract. My ex wanted to be a musician, he was told to take ET then switch in boot camp. Guess what? He never was allowed to switch.
Oh jeez. I've got to talk to my recrtuier abou it. I'm hoping because i'm a female, it will give some advantages. I have researched and females are "wanted" so to speak, supposidly. So i'm hoping that, plus high scores on my ASVAB(i'm studying like crazy!) Will get me Navy Diver offered. Fingers Crossed! Thank you Anti M!(:
Good luck. I hope you do get what you want, and then, that you love it!
Thanks(: I'm really excited...I just want to go go go!
LOL, just remember that through the first two weeks, when almost everyone is ready to go home home home!

You'll be fine, but seriously, almost every recruit has days they just want to walk away. That means boot camp is working!
I'm just excited to get there, meet new people, and get my life started.
I know this is what I want to do. I can't wait(:
My grandma is FINALLY reading the pamplets I bombard her with x)
I went to MEPS and my recruiters told me to take a job that i was interested in just in case i didnt get diver i would have something to fall back on and then when im in the navy keep trying for diver. I was originally an AE. Look if you have been studying and training go to MEPS take the ASVAB go thru medical and if they offer a job you are interested take it. Let it be your back up. BUT! that shouldnt be on your mind. You gotta KNOW IM GUNNA BE A NAVY DIVER! You got be motivated and from what i read u seem to be. So go to MEPS get cleared and if they offer a job that u can do take it. why not. its not like ur gunna be that anyways right? your gunna be a navy diver...right? just keep up with the PST and stay on your recruiter bout getting the dive contract. go to facebooks divers page. us navy divers. and talk to some of the divers on there. there are some recruiters there that will take you in and help you and ur recruiter to help your process out. but you gotta put ur end of the bargain out! Good luck and maybe see you around in the dive community!

Future US Navy Diver,
Artie
Thanks Artie(:
I'm gonna get it!
I've been studying my butt off! and workingout religiously it seems!
I'm so dedicated, and I truely CAN'T WAIT!!
Hope to see you there(:
Nicole, when my husband went to the recruiting office he knew he wanted to be a diver. When he went to MEPs he passed all jobs that were offered to him. He went to the PST religiously every week. Once he passed the required amount of times, he was offered a contract a few weeks later. He signed up with a recruiter in February, got contracted in April, left for boot camp in July, and graduated in September. If you go in knowing what you want, have a good recruiter and show your dedication, it can be a very quick process. Not sure what other people have experienced but this is our personal one. I think it all depends on you and how hard you're willing to push.
