My daughter’s BC starts in January, 2015 and I had some questions regarding what her experience will be like.

What is January weather like in Great Lakes? Is there anything she should prepare for?

Thanks in advance for any input you can provide.

Thanks for that! Two more days!

Check your My Page.

Brooke, I left info for you on your My Page.

Hi Brooke, I am sure Navy will take good care of them; supply their needs according to the season.  At this stressful time I realize this is a step she must take to build something great for herself. In BC they have ships, divisions, I imagine they will be trained together. Happy New Year to all!

My son leaves Jan. 5th also, but from Florida.  My niece lives near GL and sent text today stating -30 feels like temperature on Tuesday.   They already have snow and are expecting 3-6 more inches  Monday into Tuesday.  I want my son to bring a sweatshirt with him to MEPS tomorrow, but he only wants to bring a light jacket since it will fit better in a small backpack he's bringing with him to carry a clean shirt, underwear, and socks.  My husband said to leave him alone and let him make his own decision.  We grew up in Chicago, moved to Florida 22 years ago and my son has never experienced this kind of cold or snow.  So I know he's going to be very cold tomorrow when he lands in Chicago, but I also know the Navy will give him what he needs to keep him warm once he get to RTC.  Maybe our sons will be in the same division.  Good luck to you.  Today is much harder than I ever expected it to be.

For those renting a car - what car rental agency did you use? We touched base on this but I didn't get the car rentals name. Thank you so much!
Gator fan...your son definitely needs more than a light jacket. Or have him take a coat he does not want and donate it. I live in MN and that is really cold

Total time your Recruit will spend outdoors at the airport and on arrival at Great Lakes will be less than 1 minute. If you are going to get in a parting disagreement with your son, is this what you want to argue about?

CryptoDad,   You are right and I left it alone, but then his cousin texted him and showed the current temperature and the snow.  He asked if I thought he should bring the sweatshirt.  I told him it might be a good idea.  So he brought it with him.  No way was I going to argue on the last day.  It's just hard for him to think it'll be that cold when he's in 80 degrees.  Thanks for your advice.

I convinced him to take the sweatshirt.  He left today to go to the hotel and tomorrow to MEPS and it's 80 degrees here.  Having grown up in Chicago, I know what he's going to be experiencing.  I was glad when he listened to me.  A coat would have been better, but living here, the most they ever need are sweatshirts.  Occasionally when it gets below 30, it doesn't last long enough to wear a coat.  The reason we left Chicago was I was tired of the weather.  My sister lives in Hayward, WI near the border of MN.  I don't know how she does it.  Thanks for your advice.

Hello Everyone, I am new here to this site and forum and very excited about chatting with fellow moms. ;) My youngest son just left today headed to Jacksonville, FL and is scheduled to ship out to RTC tomorrow. I am so proud of him, but must admit I am emotional today. My oldest son is in the Army and been through this but nevertheless it is still emotional.
