For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed. Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.
**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.
**UPDATE 7/29/2021** You now must be fully vaccinated in order to attend PIR:
In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Only he will know what he's able to endure. The submarine pays more because it's harder to attract men to live in that environment. The pay shouldn't dictate what he does, he should decide whether he wants a confined space for long periods of time or access to open seas and fresh air. I know which one I'd choose!

That's a really tough question!!! It would mean he would either be part of the AECF group (surface ETs) or SECF (sub ETs)
A school for surface is in Great Lakes and then he would move to another state for C school depending on what he will be working on. A school for subs is in Groton, CT and I believe that the C school might be there as well but I'm sure someone could correct me on that.
There's alot of different types of ships and each serves it's own purpose with the Navy. There are also different types of subs as well. I understand if attached to a sub, they can go for quite some time with no communications and often have to share beds on the subs which is referred to as hot racks. It would probably be very helpful if you/he could talk with some "bubbleheads" - I think serving on a sub, you either love it or not and I suspect that is true with a ship as well but you get can see land more often and you can be on the deck of a ship and see the sun rise and set, etc.
Our son scored in the Nuke range but he did not want to serve on a sub, his dad was part of the AECF community for many years so our son went that direction. He's on a great destroyer now and seems to be happy with his decision.
I used to hear the food was better on subs but I haven't heard any complaints from our son about his ship's food. I think our CSs (Culinary Specialists) have come along way over the years in the galleys! Good luck to your son
