Good afternoon, everyone!   It has been a while since I have posted, my apologies.  Hello, again to everyone.  I need prayers and warm thoughts for my oldest son Joshua.  He has just left to go take the ASVAB for the second time.  He is very worried, stressed, I feel for him.  As bad as I dread the thought of my only two sons leaving for the Navy, many more times that do I pray for Joshua's success today.  He has never been very good with studies.  He stresses then gets confused and cant concentrate.  He wants this so badly, more so than any other thing I have seen him go after his entire life.  Jacob has already passed and he has been so supportive to him, he is driving him to the test as a matter of fact.  Jacob packed up "brain food" for him as they were leaving,, made sure he had his folder and off they went.  The test is at 12:30 in town,, Redding, Ca.  MEPS will be next month in Portland, Ore. if all goes well.  Please pray for Joshua,, I love him dearly and the many mixed thoughts in my head right now are bringing tears to my eyes.  I guess since he has waited so long to take the test a second time that the Navy wasnt brought up much so in the back of my head I pretended it didnt exist.  But, I know it does, soon they will be gone.  I pray that the Lord gives me strength as well as I am not a strong person and I know that my spirits will drop dramatically when the "time" comes.  Thank you all so very very  much for being a part of my life, for your advice and support and prayers.  This mom is going to go sit on the couch and cry and await my boys' return from town.. I will let you all know this evening how it went.  God Bless you all,, Tina,,, Joshua and Jacob's mama

Some people simply don't test well. My son is one of them. He got good grades in school and then come test time he was terrible. He finally learned to relax and not panic and now he does much better. I hope your son gets a good enough ASVAB to get in. I know that all the studying in the world doesn't help if they freeze up at test time. Good luck to him. Please let us know how he did, my son left from Portland too (we live in Ashland, OR).
Thank you for your support!
Prayers for him !!!
good luck to your son; let us know how it goes; my daughter did OK on the asvab and is currently in A school and is loving Navy life so I hope your son gets this great opportunity also! :) :)
Thankyou!
Good morning, everyone. Well, Joshua did not pass the second time. What to do now! The recruiter told Jacob that he shouldnt have to wait for his brother to pass before he could move on. That kind of upset me. Joshua was in a suprisingly fair mood when he came home. We went online to find a book, cant really afford 50 bucks an hour for a tutor. ASVAB for dummies is what he has used,, we were told that this particular book is not good to use. I am praying his spirits keep high and he doesnt have to wait six months like he was told to take it again. Tina
Hi Tina:

Remember, when 1 door closes, another door opens. When our Josh was selecting for aircraft, his first choice was jets, second choice helos. He was VERY upset but....no one said life is fair (got to get used to that Navy)! Josh will recover, he will refocus and he will try again.

There are also practice tests on line that he should. It may be that he is not a fast reader so the time limits work against him. this is something he can overcome by doing practice test over and over to increase his speed.

It seems that he is in a good frame of mind so that is half the battle. Tell him to just relax (lol), focus and do what he needs to do. All in all, everything will work out.

I,m pullin' for ya' Josh!!

Keep us updated, Tina.
Regards,
Carrol
I have relayed the message to Joshua,, thankyou so much! p.s you got a smile from my boy!
So sorry he didn't pass. It sounds as though he really just needs to work on his test-taking skills. You need to think about his brother too. Is it fair to hold him back because Joshua didn't pass? If you're expecting them to serve together, it's very unlikely. I would let Jacob go ahead and go in and then Joshua would have less pressure on him. He probably feels he's letting everyone down by failing so less pressure would be very good for him. Let him try again in 6 months.
I know Joshua feels pressure. But before they told me they were going to do this they had both decided to join together. They know that they will not be serving together, but they want to at least go thru the first parts together. I think mabey they are just growing up at last and acting like brothers. The recruiter said that Joshua needs work math and word knowledge Tina
Yes, Jacob is moving on. He has already been to MEPS, still waiting for a job to come thru. He still wants Joshua to have a chance to go with him, I think both the boys feel guilty for Dad and I to have to pay for two trips to Chicago,, but we told them both, we would give all we had and more, no matter what the cost to see you two graduate and share with the world how proud we are of you!
Sorry to hear about Joshua and the results of the second go around. It might help him if he googles ASVAB practice tests. I am going to ask a friend of mine what our base library uses--I can't remember right now what the site is they use, but I will give it to you once I find out. Chris A is right. Some people don't test well and end up with stellar military careers! Tell Joshua not to give up on his abilities to pass the test.
