Not only does it prepare the SR's, but it also prepares the loved ones for those times of when you can't communicate with them. Think of it that way, as well :)
How long has been your service member been in boot camp? It has been 10 days and we don't have a clue when you get a letter and find out what ship or company our son is? Anyone knows? Thanks.
PROUDPARENT, I am guessing your son is in TG 19. You should be receiving the form letter soon, and that letter will have all the information for you. It will contain his address, division number and PIR date etc.
Hang in there!
It took about 2 weeks for us to get the letter with the address..
Received phone call today! Ship 03 Div 105. I am the happiest mom ever today! Call lasted 7 minutes. So good to here my SR's voice. Ahhhhhh...
its hard at BC... but write as soon as you get the address.. I waited and waited.. but worried more.. all turned out ok.. your SR will be fine and be ok..
missing home is the hardest part.
write now and be ready to send out letters as soon as you get the address..
buy stamps and send lots of letters even if he doesn't write back soon..
SR are only allowed to send mail on sundays..
Thank you for your advice macvw!
Hi Everyone..my son leaves for Boot Camp 5/13 he got the job of AIRR (air rescue swimmer) and worked hard to get the contract! I am finding this web site so informative. Thanks to all the parents who take the time to put all the information on here. If anyones son is a AIRR I would love to hear your thoughts on the program. Does your son like it? This is like a whole world of Navy information! When I saw the Budweiser (coming home) commercial I couldn't help but think of all of the veterans and current service man that have given up so much to serve our country. Made me so proud to know our son will soon be part of that group! Surely pulled at the emotions of being a mom of a son going into the Navy! How do all you moms do it:)

this is all new to me my first time writing anything...my son is leaving for basic on wed the 19th of this month. I am full of questions but also really happy for him to be starting this new chapter. He is 20 years old and wasn't feeling the whole school thing after 2 years. He has been in DEP since June and entering the Nuke program after Basic. I am wondering if anyone knows what happens with Nukes after basic. Do they go off to Charleston Sat morning after Graduation? is Friday the only time we get to spend with him, If so I want to be prepared. Do I send him with a phone card not his cell phone? if so how much? Any thing else to send with him or just the clothes on his back?? What helps me when I get crazy with worrying and questions is to think that My job was only to raise him and not keep him. I know that millions of young men before him have gone through this and survived. As moms we need to learn to let go and hope that we have prepared them for the long journey ahead called life.
