OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Thank you for responding- I have to get used to using a computer myself and checking my e-mails! I've gotten a few phone calls from him already detailing the benefits of his own computer since he has moved across the street to A school. And I'm getting a package ready to send him that includes his cell phone- just when I thought I could decrease the minutes on my plan!:) Thank you again for your time in answering my questions. The NEX has good deals on laptops, everything from a basic model for a few hundred dollars to a serious gaming laptop for $5,000. Guess which one my son wants, LOL. Dell computers has a military discount, similar to their college discount. That's where my son will be getting his computer.
As far as buying him the computer, don't do it. If he's not married he has plenty of money to buy one himself. My son is paying back student loans AND signed up for the GI Bill at the top rate, yet he still has lots of cash for whatever he wants to do. He doesn't have to pay for his food or housing, his only expenses are basic toiletry and maybe some incidentals. He has nearly $1000 per month to spend as he pleases.

cathyg, just my two cents on your comment. I really dont think they NEED a computer for A-school, they have them there for their classroom work. My son never had one and just bought one on his own after he went to his duty station just for personal use. As far as a cell phone he could probably buy one anywhere, but something to remember is some company's have what they call a military suspension, if they have to go overseas, where they wouldnt have to pay (or something like that), but it does have to be in the persons name. In my own opinion it would be nice for him to have a phone to keep in touch but surely not a must. As far as an Ipod , really not a must. What your son might want to do is wait till he gets to his duty station and purchase what he needs or wants....... they will make pretty good money especially if they dont have alot of bills to pay. Anyway just my input.
My son is almost 20 and I am still teaching him to manage his money, he has gotten alot better since it is his money we are talking about. Good Luck.

Arwin, I completely agree......... let him buy himself a PC and anything else he might think he needs. I agree, they have plenty of money. I at first had my son on my cell phone bill but would have him pay it, he has since got his own plan and now pays his own bill.........I am now on the basic plan for myself, it is great teaching them to be independant and pay their own way and my son loves it, makes him feel like he is growing up. YEA !!

We finally decided that we will keep my son on our cell phone plan, we see no reason to pay the base fee twice. Just because he has plenty of money there's no reason to waste it. However, because he has the big data package deal, he has to pay his portion of the bill each month. We're setting up an automatic payment for it.
We'll do this until he has a reason to have a cell account in his own name.

My son is now in Pensacola waiting for A school to start for him. He then has C school. He'll probably be there for 1 1/2 to 2 years. He bought a flat screen TV and a nice laptop for himself. He told me he won't be buying a car until he's 25 because insurance is too expensive (He's 21). *He wrecked his car before he left for BC.* He's fine with not having a car and all the maintainence that goes with it.
He did comment that "one week at BC is like FOREVER." Recently I asked him if he felt like he'd been in Florida for a long time. He said it really only feels like he got there last week. He loves it there. He loves the Navy and is extremely happy doing what he's doing.
When he bought his flat screen TV, he invited his buddies to come have movie night in his room. It was Memorial Day weekend. He didn't have to work, but didn't have liberty. They other guys had to work so he opened up his room and the had a marathon movie weekend. He said they had a lot of fun and the guys that had to work didn't feel so bummed.

I have a question regarding getting these items to A-school. My son is at school in GL. He has his cell & laptop...wish I hadn't bought it for him because you are right, he wanted something different :( Anyway, he does have a few things he would like me to send (like the PS3). I haven't decided I will actually send it or not, but how is the best way to ship these items? USPS priority mail? Today they told me 10 lbs would cost $22 to send to GLs...just wasn't sure what the best way to ship items to him would be...any suggestons?
