So my husband graduates basic training on the 29th of this month, he called me yesterday and was talking about something called liberty weekend but he was so excited about it he made absolutely no sense! Can ANYONE explain to me what this is??

He will have Liberty during PIR weekend. The amount of time will depend on where his "A" School or training will be. What is your SR's rating (job/specialty) going to be? Knowing that, we can let yoy know how much time to expect.
Check your my page.
You will have from about 10:30 am until sometime that evening usually between 8 and 9 and then you will be able to meet him at the airport and spend time with him before his flight on Saturday. I left info on your My Page.
It being a holiday weekend (Labor Day) with heavy airline traffic, stay flexible.
Yes, it's a holiday weekend, but those who will fly out will most likely still fly out on Saturday, but it is possible that some may not fly out until Sunday. Loved ones with a Sailor who flies out that weekend may want to plan to leave on Sunday. In the past, most did fly out the day after PIR for Labor Day weekend.
lemonelephant, all I said was "stay flexible". Please refrain from putting speculative words into my mouth.
I've posted what has happened in recent years.
HI there lemonelephant- I saw your info and my son at at BC now and has PIR on 9/12/14. He is going to Goose Creek South Carolina for Nuke School. I think that he leaves Great Lakes the very next day- after graduation but I am not exactly sure. Do you know how much time he will have for that Liberty? Thank you for all your amazing information and help!
Yes, he most likely will fly out the day after PIR. See PIR Day and Liberty During PIR Weekend to help you know how to plan your weekend.
I previously left info on your My Page for you.
Navywifemomma, since your recruit will be in the Nuclear Field, you will want to join NUKE moms and you may also want to check out Nuke School Charleston and Nuke A School FAQ. The Rating Information Card for NF can be found at https://www.cool.navy.mil/enlisted/rating_info_cards/nukepower.pdf. Your Sailor will most likely fly out to "A" School the day after PIR. See PIR Day and Liberty During PIR Weekend to help you know how to plan your weekend.
Your Sailor may have Prototype in Ballston Spa, NY; if so, join Moms/Dads/Families with Nukes in Ballston Spa, NY at that time. Some stay in Charleston.
