Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

T'smom... There are also free trollys downtown that take you from one end and site to the other. :) The Metra is GREAT, more time to spend visiting and relaxing with your new Sailor, less time in the crazy Chicago traffic, paying tolls and trying to find parking! (The potholes were awful too!) However, I think a rental car is a MUST to get around GL (and to get your Sailor back to base on time. VERY important, as they can lose liberty privileges if they are late!), the pocket communities are bit spread out. No reliable public transport there.

Hi everyone! Just dropped in to check on you all.:) I left some replies on the last few pages, but think I will leave one last one here at the end. It was for Tsmom initially, but it really applies to the whole group...
LOL Bono's mom, you are definately NOT crazy. :) Tsmom, I assure you that nothing is wrong with you! =) This group of wonderful group of ladies is your lifeline right now. Only they really get what it's like to be the Mom of a Spec Ops candidate. Already your perspective on the world has changed a bit (being thankful for any communication you get, hating holiday PO closures) and you have realized that although your Recruit's training experiance is similar in many ways to the others, in other ways it's very different! Their experiance as Sailors will be different from most of the others too... You may still get less info and calls overall, (during BUDS and beyond) and they can't be as free with you about sharing the further details of their training or later, their missions (or they may be too tired/weary and mentally affected to want to talk about it much).
They will never be assigned to ships or travel the seas on a 7 month deployment, e-mailing you along the way, getting mail drops and packages. When their deployments come, it will be sudden, and without much, if any, warning and there will probably be 0 communications until they return, Unlike ship Sailor's Moms, you won't even know when that is; no big Navy base homecomings, no greeting the ship, or holding signs at the airport. It's really tough, (as I have gathered from the SEAL moms/Wives I know onsite) but they have to keep a low profile, and so do we. BTW: I so hear you all on the bummer of not being able to post pics onsite! :( It was hard not to when my son got married!
In Pre Buds, they will begin to be indoctrinated into the Special Warfare Community and their way of thinking about the Navy, and themselves as Sailors, may begin to change a bit as well. They will begin to distance themselves from those in the "Regular Navy". To be honest, I am not always thrilled with the way that attitude manifests itself, but it is very much a part of the Warrior culture they will belong to. So, your connections here, to those experiencing similar things and changes, is so important to keep alive, beyond the M and G, and PIR. Sorry, don't mean to be a downer at all, just trying to prepare you for what is to come and the next leg of the journey.
Only 2 weeks to go, so excited for you all!! =) Yes, Ladybug, it will definately be like an early Christmas!! :D -

I finally got a letter yesterday too! It is so hard not to get impatient. I can't imagine what it is like to not hear from your SR for longer stretches and not know what they are doing or if they are in harm's way...I can't let my mind go to that dark place...
But back to the letter--it pleased me that my son has been getting and enjoying my letters. For a long while prior to boot camp, he told me that he didn't need any letters at home. I was heartbroken but he relented just before he left and really apreciates getting them!
He said (gosh it's hard not to use his name sometimes) that they got their dress uniform tailored this week and that they have been given a bit more time to write. (hope we all get letters!)
He also said that they have had a lot of inspections, simulated firing exercises and military drill assessment. They have been running about 3-5 miles in the dive mo and marching 3+ miles every day. He is very excited for graduation, as I'm sure they all are!
Thanks for being there guys--I've had some low moments this week with no news from my son and just reading the posts helps keep me connected.
Thanks AngiefromWa--I always enjoy and learn something from your posts. I went back and read your response to my question about the Ramada and M&G--I will try to map quest it and try to find out more about the facility. Your idea of going to the restaurant sounds great. I really appreciate the time and care you put into all of your responses. -

Ladybug, I must agree as well. :) I think you spoke for more than just your Div Group here, but for all Sailors Moms, and especially all Spec Ops Moms, with regards to the spectrum of this experiance, It can be very bittersweet at times. There is pride and dread, happy and sad, all kinds of opposing emotions, often at the same time! You and Brie as right too, in that you can't let yourself dwell in the rough, dark parts right now, but instead just enjoy the safety of these forums, and focus on the camaraderie of others who understand, and the support of your Sailor. =) Knowing you are not alone in this does bring much comfort! :-)
I actually broke a rule I have with that post, in my efforts to not just sympathize with you, but also empathize...I often advise new Moms not to get too far ahead of themselves, to leave tomorrow's worries there and focus on what they know and can deal with now. There is a great older post onsite that I love called "Never borrow from the future". It would probably come up if you searched it. Have to learn to crawl before you can walk, walk before you can run along this path. So, my bad if I made you "go there", i.e the dark places of tomorrow. If I upset or offended any of you, or stole your joy in any way, my sincere apologies!! Yes, I do believe that knowledge is power, and accurate information does help to dispel fear, but I did not mean to deliver it with a sledgehammer. :)~ Note to self, stop posting replies after midnight. Apparently, my discernment went to sleep before I did! LOL

I'm a very proud girlfriend of a sailor! I have gotten 3 letters this week and just got a phone call again!! My first was a few weeks ago and I was at work so I did t get to talk to him as long as I would have liked but it was amazing to hear his voice... Even if he did sound sick.
Did I mention mine is ship 4 Div 823? Anyways, I got another phone call about an hour and a half ago and we got to talk for 40 minutes! Basically alot of I love yous and mushy stuff but did anyone else get a call and a few more facts about what they are actually doing this week? Or anything else exciting to share about our upcoming grad date!!! Soooo excited! -

Yes, I'm SomedayJ"s SR's mom! I have been on the site since last spring and learned so much about what my son is going through. I am also very thankful to my son's girlfriend who has been wonderful about sharing letters and phonecalls with us. We are planning to attend the M & G and PIR, looking forward to meeting all you wonderful ladies,

anyone also here that they may not be forming a buds group till after the winter months so they may be in great lakes several months? also that they might be having to stay where they are for about one week before they get to move to prebuds? they will have meetings about finances and the like before they transfer over. My son also said that they keep changing things so it may all switch again. I am assuming that the prebuds baracks are full and they have to make room for them. but you know what assume means? well it was great hearing from them and getting calls I think I can make it less then two weeks now if I dont hear again. and thank you for letting me vent also this sight and you families have been wonderful to listen too. makes me feel like I am not alone in this proocess! cnat wait to meet you !
