Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Hi sdcalram--my son said prebuds probably won't be until February, but we have heard so many different things that I think we (they) just need to be prepared for anything! I didn't hear about the meetings--that sounds like a good thing. My son wasn't sure if he was grad & go--he didn't seem to know anything about that. He did ask me if I knew what the housing was like in prebuds. He heard it was apartment style with 4 guys to a place. Anyone heard anything about that? I agree, it was so wonderful to hear from my son. It's funny that both times I got a call (other than the I'm here call) I also got a letter within one day! I'm not sure why it's worked out that way, but two calls and two letters. That will hold me over until the 29th! I believe on Monday we can go online and get our parking passes--that will make it feel more real too! Can't wait to meet everyone too! Hope everyone is getting calls and letters!
SomedayJs--welcome to the site! You certainly deserve special "kudus" --being apart in a relationship is never easy (been there and done that and we got married!). However, I'm sure you must be so proud of him! Will you be coming to graduation? -

As I was standing in the driveway reading a letter from my SR, I got a phone call from him. Thankful I had gotten far enough into the letter to be able to ask specific questions about things he had written. All is well - he said that he feels like he works for Old Navy clothing store instead of the US Navy - sooooo much folding! Did say he has heard they will not go to CA until March, and that they will have some liberty time the weekend before PIR - guessing after Captains Cup. Said he is looking forward to more PT - they aren't doing nearly as much as he was doing before going. Was glad to hear that all is good and he loves military life. Did say food is good, but misses sweet tea and fried okra! Best time of the day is mail time and meal time! He was surprised but excited that I decided to come to PIR. Glad he called and I could tell him before he volunteered for watch duty or something like that while I am there. Told him to volunteer for Sunday since I am leaving Saturday. We never know how much time we will end up having with them after PIR, but will look forward to every minute we can be together. I have a feeling we will end up getting a pizza and sitting in the hotel room where he can use my cell phone to call family and friends. Wonder who he will call first - his grandmother or his fraternity brothers!?! Guess I'll take a laptop so he can spend some time catching up on news, football scores, etc. and be able to skype with his sisters and brother.

The laptop is a good idea Mom4Navy. Gotta love Skype! =) So glad you are going! (Did you see my reply on Oct 14th to your post?) Wait until you see how small they can fold their T shirts! Amazing, can't believe what they can stuff into their seabags. But once it gets opened at home, it all sproinks everywhere, at least it did in my guest room! LOL I've been looking for someone to tell me how to fix okra right. It always seems to turn out too soft/slimy when I try. Have a couple of Southern N4M girlfriends who have turned this Northern girl onto sweet tea. :-)
Those "Meetings" are actually classes known as INDOC. (i.e Indoctrination into Navy life) Every new Sailor, regardless of where they are headed to next, has to take those first before classing up for their next phase. Potentially very helpful they are; the Navy spends a LOT of $$ and time trying to teach their new Sailors how to handle their new adult lives in the Military, especially in regards to money management and developing wise spending habits. For some, it's the first time they have been on their own, having a steady paycheck, and sometimes, all that cash in their bank account can go to their heads! Unfortunately, many of the merchants nearby the base are very aware of that fact! So, please do counsel/warn your Sailors about not being gullible, not making big purchases right away (some do need/want laptops though) and to be careful about signing long term contracts for new technology. -

Sorry to hear that they will have to wait longer then recent classes to get started. :( You are right, nothing is for sure until the orders are cut and in their hands. Last year's winter Class logged a total of 5 months in GL. Your guys are correct, no winter training (no HW especially, thank God!) in CA. They may get put into temporary barracks in GL at first until the next Class tests out and goes to CA. My son moved twice while in GL. It is not apartment living. There are older and newer barracks in GL, pretty decent, but nothing fancy. Most do have 3-4 guys, in bunks, to a room, with a bathroom shared between them and another room. A few have only 2 guys to a room.
Sidenote: My son recently got moved over to new barracks in San D. He has two friends for roomies, (they were able to pick this time) and he was pretty psyched at first because 1) they were no longer near the instructors LOL and 2) he has an Ocean view! Something for your guys to look forward too. =] Turned out though that only one of them actually stays during the week, mine and another head for their places each night now, so the lucky other guy gets the whole room to himself! =) Still has to share a head with the other group of three guys next door.
Since a couple of new Div members have joined you recently, I think now may be a good time for a little reminder...one thing you must all be careful of, is to not discuss details and dates of their training (from here on) on these open, public forums. Use your PMs instead. Never post things like what date they will begin or end training, when they will leave or arrive, how many are in their Class, have DOR'd, etc. Very important that you keep the posted Class info very general, or better yet, don't post it at all. Please save the specifics and inside info for your (future) Private BUDS Group and for Group PMs, especially as they progress further and further along. :) -

Hey lady bug, Can you let me know what the candles are for and where I can get one?
I have decided that the best therepy I could get from all this stress is to go buy all new clothes for my trip.
I have saved lots of money not buying him any clothes this year, so I have decided that I will just buy me the clothes instead. I'm so excited and going Saturday to spend money. HAHA I have printed my pass too, made some plans to go into the City and getting so excited. Let me know in my inbox where you are staying so we can make plans to meet Thursday night. I have talked to TSmom a few times and waiting to hear where she is staying. Don't make it public, that way no one will know where our boys will be. Should be getting our last phone call with in the week. Can't wait!!!!!!!!!! -

I'm going to join a fitness club too! My family goes to one and I have been the hold out, but I've been thinking about it for awhile. I have to exercise first thing in the morning or I usually won't get to do it. My day just builds and builds and by the time I get home I have to rush to make dinner, run errands, clean (yuck) and it is easier to just have a glass of wine at night! (Actually got some chocolate from a winery that was made with wine and to go with wine--it was so good)
I too can join the Navy4moms Anonymous--N4MA. My family teases me about it all of the time. :) But really, no one else really understands. My family gets by on so much less info/talk than I need.
The candle sounds really nice--have to check the mall out for one when I get a chance. -

Wine, Chocolate and getting to see our sons...who can ask for more!!!!! I go to the gym and it has been my life savor these last few weeks. Get on the tread mill and run/walk your stress out. It works!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Don't forget the head phones or Ipod and listen to some really good music, it gets you moving and makes it less boring. What is the blue yankee candle for? Do I need to get one? Let me know. Also can you inbox me a message and let me know where you are staying at? I can't wait to meet you. I will let yo know where I have mine reservation at.
