For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Angie, what would be best to say on the ribbon, just his division number and that is it. my son's sister is going and she is an officer in the army and will be wearing her dress blues what would you suggest her ribbon to say. Thanks for anything you can say to help me make this better, but still be proud to wear the ribbon.

Well, ladies one thing to keep in mind too is that although by PIR you will probably all know each other by first names, your Sailors will know each other only by last names! (So, if you ask your son if he knows 6 ft tall, dark haired Jimmy from NC in his Div, he won't have a clue!) Their RDCs usually call them by that or a DIV nickname, although it's possible, since they have access to their files, they may know their first names. They just don't use them, :)
So, to help you find each other (without having to have "hello my name is" badges with your screen names!) you might make friend requests of each other before PIR, share your first name, and possibly your son's first name, or better, first initial by PM (Private Message.). Then your Ribbon's can say something like "J's Mom" or "Proud Mom" or "Proud of my J" or "J's big Sis" or "Proud Navy Aunt" on one side, and then definately "Division 823 on the other side. I'm not sure what the limit for the numbers of letters or symbols on each side is.
This Ribbon thing is rather new, still being fleshed out and discovered. Lala has a pretty sweet thing going. :) An endless supply of customers for sure! We didn't do anything like that for our PIR. Most Divs or PIR Groups had fun coming up with a special unique thing to recognize each other with, buttons, certain colored scarves, hats, T shirts, whatever their imagination and creativity dreamed up! It sure seemed to bond the Moms even closer to each other and made it easy for N4M friends to spot each other. =)
As long as you don't use your Sailor's last name, your screen name, and preferably not their first name, but not horrible if you do-just don't use it in posts on site, or post any pictures of your ribbons-then you should be o.k. to show your pride on PIR morning! :-) -

I did do black ribbons with gold letters for another 800 division. They turned out very nice. Those colors look great together. They all used first names and they sent the info to me in a private message. I have a pic of a sample black and gold ribbon I will add to this post. Don't worry, it is a sample. Not one of your sailors. My future son-in-law was going to be in this div too an EOD but he changed his mind when he found out how little time he would have to spend with his fiancee (my daughter) even once they are married. With both of them in the Navy I don't know that they will have a lot of time together anyway. I just don't want them to rush the wedding so that they can be closer together but I do think that will happen.

No phone calls for me, and still no letters! Hopefully will get one tomorrow...
My son is a writer - even when we could talk by phone he would write me letters or send a card, even when it wasn't a special occasion. Of course, the entire nation knows (or thinks!) that South Carolina is slow...Maybe the mail carrier just hasn't gotten around to delivering it yet. Oh wait - I had plenty of bills come in!
I did have fun tonight celebrating my mothers 78th birthday with my brother and sisters. We took some good, funny pictures to send to my son. He loves his grandmother because she is a nut! and they love to pick on each other. She is so proud and excited for him. That was the most fun I have had since the night he left when family and friends all got together to dine and tell him goodbye. It is funny - I have neighbors and friends asking me every day if I have heard from him. He has been coaching a swim team for 6 years and those kids love him and keep asking about him. Really looking forward to having something to share with everyone! -

No letter and no phone call for me either. Starting to get to the point I want to jump in my car and drive to Chicago. Only take me three hours. Ok won't do it but it made me feel better to say it!! Hopefully I will get a letter this week.

I'm the same way. Had a call come in yesterday with a different area code, go so excited it wasnt him but it was from my sister in law that is living in Norway.i even have my phone seating by me at work. Never answer my phone at work but will if it is an out of state call. Glad I have such a great boss. Hopefully this week I will at least get a letter.

I'm still waiting for letter/phone call too--some days I'm more patient than others. I also take my cell phone everywhere--I keep it in my pocket at work so when I leave my office I'm never without it! I'm worried he will call when I'm in a bad cell area--it would be just my luck to miss his call! I'm spending my time at home cleaning his room and closet--it makes me feel closer to him and softens my frustration at not being in touch with him. Thank goodness he left his room a disaster! It should keep me busy for a long while. :)
Anyone interested in doing ribbons or something else so that we can recognize each other at PIR? -

I will be ordering the ribbons. I think I just won't put his name on it. Just the Divison #. my son has a different name (Payden) do not want to have any problems. I know that TSmom is getting one, without her sons name on it too. Was told to go with black and gold lettering. The is what will be for the seals. Have you received anything from your son (like a letter)? Me nothing, getting anxious, need to have something from him soon.

For those who are worried about the name on the ribbon. I think Angie is right and the first name should be fine. But if you are still worried about it I can put something else in place of the name, like NAVY, or Name mom, or just Mom. I have done the ribbons for several others in the 800's divisions and they mostly put the first name on one side and the division on the other side. I am happy to do what ever you all want. Just let me know. :) Thanks

Appreciate you being so understanding and accommodating of this concern, as well as for helping us to protect the security of our (Future) Spec Ops Sailors Lala! =)
You know ladies, one of my Divmates made a little homemade plaque as a keepsake for all of us. It had a little wooden anchor and on it she painted our PIR date and Ship and Div #'s. I still have that hanging over my desk almost two years later. :) So, that could be a way to slice the "what to put on the ribbon" question, if you are wanting it primarily as a momento. Obviously, you'll all recognize the ribbon color (if you all get the same one) and Div #. Hopefully, you'll all get to meet face to face first at your Meet and Greet the night before too. :-) So you should be able to spot each other in your bleachers on PIR day. Intros will already have been made.
OOPS ProudMomofaSailor... You should probably delete that last post of yours, since it does contain your son's first name! Have to save that kind of sharing for PMs with your friends here. :) -

OMG that is me too. I have not been running every night because I just have to get home and check the mail box. I have decided that, I have to go running because my mail will there when I get home, but if I don't start running all of my clothes will not fit anymore. :) So I will go running tonight and hopefully my letter will be there. It is so funny how we all think the same.
