For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Loose Lips Threat

The Navy and our children in the Navy tell us to be careful about telling others about them, what they do, where they are, where they've been, and when and where they're going. The concern is that jihadists will try to kill us or them. Read the article above. A naturalized US citizen from Yemen was arrested yesterday in Rochester, NY, after he purchased two pistols with silencers and ammo from an FBI anti-terrorist agent. He wanted to kill veterans returning from the middle east as well as Shi'ite muslims in Rochester. I imagine if he had the chance, he'd shoot the veterans' families. He had been under surveillance for a while after he had told some people he was sending money to Syrian terrorists. It's a real threat - not unfounded paranoia.
Practice "safe secs". We are all proud of our children's work and commitment. Unfortunately, we may be hurting them and us if we brag about them. Be careful who you say things to. The guy in Rochester could have easily posed as a Navy mom or dad and befriended any one of us on this site. Be wary! Who knows if this guy was a lone operator or part of a network. Paranoia? No, cautious behavior.
