FOLLOW THESE STEPS TO GET STARTED:

Choose your Username.  For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either).  Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username.  While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Make sure to read our Community Guidelines and this Navy Operations Security (OPSEC) checklist - loose lips sink ships!

Join groups!  Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself!  Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility. 

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.  

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Marriage During A-School

Me and my Sailor have been together for 7 years now, and we are about ready to tie the knot! He is now in A-school at Great Lakes, for 25 weeks. And we know that in order for me to be included in his orders that we need to at least be married a few weeks before he recieves them, is that correct? We know he has to get a chit request? Who does he ask for that? And then does anyone know all the paper work we need and such? This is new to us, and wnt to make sure everything works out, so that I will be Able to travel with him.

Join the group, Girlfriends, Fiances,and Wives of Sailors and check out the discussions there.  You will want to join, or at least check out, Great Lakes A School Q&A and GL A-school moms. You can also check out the Training Support Center (TSC) Great Lakes Facebook Page.

Yes, he will have to put in a chit to get married.  He may also need to take a class (some "A" Schools require that). Yes, you must be married before he receives his orders in order for you to be included on them--a few weeks before is best so that accomplanied orders may be offered. Anti M or another within Girlfriends, Fiances,and Wives of Sailors will be able to answer your questions.

Four weeks minimum, and the more lead time, the better.

He needs to talk to the staff in the barracks he is living in to get the current up to date info as what he is required to do to get married.
