My son left for bootcamp yesterday and I understand that part of the intake procedures include medical and dental work.  He will have to have his wisdom teeth removed?  What happens during this period of time and what kind of recovery period will he have? Still so much to learn about!

Wisdom teeth will come out only if there is a likelihood of them causing trouble down the line. No one wants to suffer through dental pain on a 9 month deployment at sea, but no one wants unnecessary surgery either.

A couple days SIQ (sick in quarters), a couple days LLD (limited light duty) and a Recruit is back to full duty, with no delays in training. Its all built into the training schedule.

CryptoGirl had it all taken care of by the family dentist 6 months prior to boot camp. It gave her and CryptoMom something less to be concerned with and a chance for some serious momma care.

Thanks so much for the info.  We spoke to him last night and he said we'd talk again in 2-3 weeks.  If he has to have this procedure, will we know at the time or just have to wait to hear from him again?

They will not contact you, so the information will have to come from your SR afterwards.

They're really, really good with wisdom teeth.  If they need to come out and the procedure would be a little more complicated, they will postpone it until they are waiting to class up during A school.

My husband, who graduates, this coming Friday, had his wisdom teeth removed during bootcamp. ALMOST EVERYONE IN IN DIVISION DID. They got one day off and pain meds. That's it. It was done about 2 or 3 weeks in.

That is interesting. You are the first loved one I've ever seen to indicate less that 2 days SIQ and 1 day LLD.
