While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Medical waivers...how long do they take?
My son is almost done with the enlistment process...however we are waiting for his eye waiver to be approved with BUPERS...it's been over a month. Is there any chance that this won't be approved? Is there anything we can do? His recruiter had him do a waiver stating his eye sight has never negatively affected his life..i.e with school, driving etc...That was done 2 weeks ago. He scored an 81 on his ASVAB and all other medical is done and clear. Has anyone had a similiar experience that will set my mind at ease?

It takes about 8 weeks. My daughter was booted from dep after 6 weeks for an eye refraction - but the outside source that administered the test messed it up so she challenged it by going to an opthamologist who explained why the test was wrong and their findings and she was (re)sworn in 2 weeks later. And now is 18 days from her boot camp PIR!

Eye waivers seem to be "popular". My son just returned from MEPS today and submitted a waiver. He had an eye exam this past February. Opthamalogist didn't tell me anything serious that I remember. He was underweight...but within BMI. He scored a 96 on his ASVAB and is anxious to "get started with the rest of his life" So we wait....I thought we were going to be all set once we got the letter from his orthodontist with the date for his band removal.

My son had to go to MEPS twice for eye waivers...but he got it. I did make it a point to e-mail and call senators congressmen,...whoever I could and perhaps that helped. WIll never know. He PIR'd Jan 29 2010 and is in Italy now

Make sure you make copies of any letters received from orthos', opthamalogists, med doctors, etc... that are required for waivers. In our experience they were all "lost" and we had to request them all over again for my sons waivers (braces removal, etc...). It was a pain, and I learned the hard way to make copies of everything. They even lost his birth certificate twice! So losing paper work can delay waivers as well.... just sit tight, waivers do come eventually.

Thanks for the responses. Finally heard back and I need to take him for a full eye exam and retinal exam, and submit that back for the waiver. A bit upset that this form is dated Aug. 17th and we were not made aware until Sept. 2nd...and only because we called the recruiter and asked for any updates. None the less, appointment is set for Monday and fingers crossed it won't take as long and he will get waiver approved.

UPDATE! Waiver is approved :-) Have to take him to the recruiters tomorrow, and back to MEPS first thing Monday a.m. to pick his school! So excited and proud!! I know he'll probably be in DEP for quite a few months, but we are almost there.

There is a group for each month rcts leave "Leavin for Boot Camp in (month they leave)" search groups and join this group...it will have info as well as connect you with other N4M's whose rcts leave that month.
Go to YouTube and search Navy boot camp, racks, graduaton, Battlestations 21 (CNN does it)
Explore this site as well…Forums, Groups and Videos and check out the “Main” tab…lots of good info

Cannot believe that after all the hoops we jumped through, my son left for bootcamp Jan. 6th to only get put in a hold after one week there for yet another eye exam and them saying he doesn't qualify and needs a waiver...He said he got one and they said its not in the system. I'm at a complete loss. So glad he is fighting this and meeting with legal at Great Lakes. My heart breaks for this kid who wants to start his Navy career and keeps getting road blocked. I have kept a copy of his waiver from BUPERS..which has been bar coded. Not sure why its not "in the system". So frustrating.

have you tried calling and getting a fax # to fax the waiver?
