OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Hi, I'm new here, but not new to the military.  My whole immediate family was in one branch or another.  I'm the youngest, the baby girl, and after almost 2 years I've finally got my physical scheduled for Monday.  I'm a little worried because my knees crack when I squat down.  They've never given me a problem, I've never had any pain; however, I'm worried that they'll see that as a sign that there is something wrong and need to further evaluate.  Another thing is that I am unsure of the MOS I should pick.  I got an 82 on the ASVAB so I know that I'll have a lot of options.  I've been doing my research and just cannot find an MOS that seems interesting enough to want to participate in for the next 2-4 years of my life.  Could anyone share the experiences that you've had or some of the MOSs that you've picked, it would really ease my nerves about the whole process.  Thank you so much.

My son chose to be a STG which is a Sonar technician on a ship. He just finished A school in December in San Diego and so far really likes it. He will be deployed to Japan in May and is very excited about that. Good luck to you and your future in the navy!

It's not MOS in the Navy, it's rating. 1130.8J_VOL_IV_Programs_&_Classification-CH3.pdf will let you know the requirements for each rating and https://www.cool.navy.mil/ (click on Enlisted Search in the middle of the page and then choose the Ratings that interest you) will tell you more about each rating. Not every rating will be available to you, either because you do not qualify or because there is not a need for candidates for a particular rating at this time. Don't lock yourself into saying that you are only interested in one rating, it will make it harder for you to be placed.  Also, read the info in Professional Apprenticeship Career Tracks (PACT) Program. Some have been offered a contract in one of those programs when there were no other contracts open that they were qualified for. If that happens to you, know ahead of time whether you will sign a contract for one of those programs or if you will hold out for a contract for a rating.
