as I am new to all this process, tough new journey...I'm nervous and feeling so many emotions as he leaves to SD tmrw for his MEPS...does any other mom know if you are able to go and see them get sworn in after they pass their testing??

We went to our son's final swearing in at MEPS. We even spent the night in the same hotel - took him out to dinner and just had a really nice time. He had to be back in his room early (I think it was either 9pm or 10pm). In the morning we drove over to MEPS (San Diego) and waited with him there - took pictures of the swearing in and just hung out. When they boarded the bus we even drove to the airport and got to say one last goodbye and get a final picture! (I have pics on my page at MEPS).
I would recommend it to anyone who is able to go........
b'sNukeMoM(MM3 Power 1305-8) glad you guys were there...I'm going to have to talk to his recruiter and see if I can go to all 3...this is BIG for me and my son...I must be part of that also, Great pics btw :)
I am also new to all of this. We went to my son's final swearing in at MEPS (San Antonio, Tx.) it's only an hour and a half from home so we spent the whole day there. We stood in the back while they were being sworn in and took pics afterwards, also got some pics of us with him and the Officer who swore them in. I know it might sound corny, but we also got to watch through the glass door while my son signed his paperwork for payroll. The hardest part of it all by far, was to hug him so tight and say goodbye as he stepped up on the bus to leave for Basic. The pride I felt in my heart for the bravery and strength of an 18 yr old to cut those apron strings was amazing, knowing that their lives will be forever changed. He left on Nov.13th and I have already received two phone calls from him the past two Saturdays, he said they were earned calls, for fifteen minutes each. They were wonderful surprises since I had been told that they only get three total, one in the beginning, middle and close to the end. Keep your phone close, I almost missed his first call. I'm sorry for this being so long but I'm a single mom of three, my son being the youngest and only boy and we are so close. My heart goes out to every mom and dad that are saying goodbye to their babies. If you have any questions please feel free to email me any time.
@valerie, keith's mom that's awesome!! I too am a single mom of 3 this is my 1st born son (middle baby) I couldn't be more proud of him for making this choice and for a future that I'm sure will be amazing! he did his 1st meps tues got home yesterday n is awaiting to get sworn in for the 1st time...cant wait to see him get sworn in...by far cutting the apron strings is the hardest as he is the 1st to leave home, he's 22. my daughter is 25 and my youngest would have turned 13 this past April...congratulations Valerie! good luck to your son and thank you for sharing!
;)
yes, he will....from what I understood my son tell me, he gets sworn in after he passes all of his forst time test in meps then he goes again to do more paperwork and swear in again and lastly before the board the bus to head to the airport..waiting on dates now
My son was sworn in yesterday. I don't know how I managed, but I held my tears back until I got home. Took him to the airport to see him off. Again, held them back, but as soon as I got to my car, I let the tears rip. Cried for two days. I know this will get easier as time goes on, but one of the hardest things I have ever had to do, let my children spread their wings.
Don't miss the opportunity to see him swear in. Take pictures. He will appreciate them later, as will you. The hardest part, waiting for that first call from him. It lasted less than a minute. I cried. Just knowing that I can't talk to him, text him, touch him. So very difficult. So thankful for my new friends to help me through this. We can help each other. My son should graduate in sometime in January or first of February. I hope that I have a chance to meet some of you at the graduation. Us moms have to stick together. I think my husband is tired of seeing the ever flowing tears. LOL!
Thanks for being here! Look forward to getting to know as many of you as I can.
