Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

I dropped my son off today with his recruiter. I watch him swear in tomorrow. Hoping
I can keep it together for him. At least until I get in the car.

Just hang in there....the first 2 weeks or so will be the hardest for the both of you. Does he have a calling card? Send his cell phone with his as well to use along the way

My son just left last Wednesday. It's stressful the first few days...but finding that every day gets just a little bit easier. I wish you and your son well. Congratulations!

Great...make sure it's activated. Does he have phone numbers and addresses ? They tend to forget stuff like that. Write them on a slip of paper that he can put in his wallet. A good rule of thumb ...if it fits in to the wallet they can keep it.
You'll get his last call late tomorrow night, then his box of clothes followed by the form letter...takes about a week or two.

If your recruit just arrived at the Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill -
chances are the group for your PIR has not been formed yet. You should join the Boot Camp Moms group & the subgroup for the month of your recruit's departure. We have a special group of ladies who will take you through the entire Boot Camp & PIR process. You should also watch the videos, look at the sample of the form letter you will be receiving (with your PIR date), review the powerpoint presentations - you will find all this and more in the Survival Guide for Navy For Moms Newbie. Please feel free to drop in the New Members Stop Here group if you have questions. Finally, keep in mind the Recruit Training Commandhas an official website. Most of your questions can be found within the above sites or groups. If not, someone will be able to direct you to the right place/person to get the answer. Please take the time and effort to educate yourself. CLICKABLE LINKS ARE ALL UNDERLINED.
THE FORM LETTER:
Within a week after your recruit arrives at Great Lakes, you'll get THE BOX containing his old cloths and other personal items (look for his cell phone in his shoes). Next will be the all important FORM LETTER which contains four important items.
- Your recruit's SHIP # and DIVISION # (Ships which are their barracks are also named, like USS Triton, USS Reuben James. Don't confuse these with the real life actual Navy vessels in service)
Just below that is his address. - Further down, you'll find his graduation date. This is his PIR (Pass In Review) date.
- Next, you'll see the password needed to download the parking pass
- Finally, you'll see the four names your recruit has listed official as his guests. (4 per recruit)
If you are lucky, you'll find a very brief note from your recruit. There is not much room to write, so don't be disappointed. Click below to see an example of the form letter.

If you have received your form letter, find your PIR date and join one of the established groups listed below. Keep this letter in a safe place and/or scan and save on your hard disk as a backup. You will have many questions regarding PIR. Where to stay? When to get airline tickets? What to do around Great Lakes? How to order photos, dvds? How do I sign up for the multiple meet and greets for parents? What should I were? You will be able to find many answers by joining this group - PIR REFERENCE INFORMATION GROUP (clickable link). There will be very few experiences like this in life - enjoy it. Be proud of your recruit.
