My daughter is off to MEPS tomorrow (and Friday)!  She is so excited to start her Navy career, she is afraid that if they don't have her first choice(s) of rate available, she will sign for just about anything.  I told her it is okay to wait for what she wants and not to stress over it - she can continue with college until it is available.  Also advised her to make sure EVERYTHING promised is in writing and not to sign any contract unless or until it is.  Hope all turns out the way she wants - it will break my heart if she is TOO disappointed.

Just a warning...If she's thinking about going the reservist route which some do because the Navy is overmanned; she will NOT receive the educational bonus until she's been activated, and not all rates get activated in the reserves.  Boot camp and time in A school do not count towards the time needed for the educational benefits.  This has been a burr under the saddle of many reservist families who had recruiters misinform/misunderstand how the educational benefits work for reservists.  Good luck tomorrow!  I hope she has a few good ones to choose from.  Blessings to all.  :)
Thanks, MidwestMom, but she is definitely wanting to go in as Enlisted.  Although she knows and appreciates many Reservists (she is a former Naval Sea Cadet and now an Officer) she is not going that route.  As a matter of fact, when the Medical Officer finally approved her medical record last month, the only slots left were for Reservists.  She decided to wait.  I think once she sits down with the Career Counselor on Friday, she won't be as anxious and will wait for one of her preferred rates.
