For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Mom to a Brand new Sailor - What do I expect?
Hi. I'm brand new here and a brand new Navy mom. My son (19 years old) left yesterday for Navy Basic Training in Great Lakes.
I am looking for any information anyone can give me on what to expect in the coming weeks / months.

Well, It will be very hard not talking to them or hearing from them but it will get better. I'm assuming you got your phone call last night next you'll receive your form letter then the box and wait for that wonderful 3 week phone call at Week no 3 normally comes on a thursday. Good Luck!

What week is your son on? My husband says if they are set back in their training due to getting sick or not passing a task, like the swimming test, etc, that they could be set back a week or so. My husband is retired from the Navy so I have someone here with knowledge on it, but then again he went to basic training 35 years ago! I'm sure some things have changed.

Sheelin, some Recruits choose to donate or trash the clothes they left in and if they didn't take a cell phone or something they would miss, then you would not receive a box. The Recruit has to pay the cost of shipping the box and might decide that the stuff inside is not worth the cost of shipping. When I received "the Box" from my now Sailor, it contained his cell phone and a set of keys that he had forgotten to take out of his pocket.
Some people only get one call--"I'm a Sailor." Some get two--"I'm here." and "I'm a Sailor." Anything more is earned or due to needing information or due to a problem (this is not a call you want to get). Remember "No news is good news" for if there is a problem (injury or failed test that could result in being put back), your Recruit WILL call; they don't call about any problem that is not believed to put them back. If a Division is not working together by week 3, then they may lose that call or if a Recruit has watch, he may not get to make the call even if the others in the Division got to make it.
Since your Recruit has been gone at least 3 weeks from yur comment, you most likely know his PIR date and/or Division number. Go to GROUPS: Listed By PIR Date - Pass In Review (Boot Camp Graduation) and click on the date and join the group for that to connect with others with loved ones who are training with your SR.
bsanford1965, "The Box" usually comes within the first week (if the Recruit sent it) and then that form letter comes a few days to up to 2 weeks later depending on how quickly the Division formed.

Sheelin, in another discussion I discovered why you didn't get the box or call. The Recruit decides who to send those to and I am sorry that things are strained between the two of you at this time. Hopefully, that will get better.

Thanks BR549, Yes I got my 30 second phone call last night. Very short and to the point. "I got here safe, my stuff will be mailed home shortly and I will call you in 3 weeks, bye" LOL. It will be a hard 9 weeks. I've not gone a day in his life without talking to him in some way, either by phone, face or text.

You've joined the groups you need to be in for now. Once you know your SR’s PIR date, go to GROUPS: Listed By PIR Date - Pass In Review (Boot Camp Graduation) and click on the date and join the group for that.
