I am in Morristown Tn. My son leaves for bc in Feb. I see on the members page that there are other moms here in Morristown with loved ones in the Navy. I have met a couple of women here in town that are Navy moms and we are discussing starting a support group. Maybe like meeting for supper once a month and exchanging phone numbers, etc. anyone in our area that might be interested, please let me know. We will try to set up a date in January.

You may find others in the group, Tennessee Navy for Moms. That would be great if you can set up a group there.

On another topic, you may wish to join the group, DEP-Leavin' for Boot Camp in February. You will meet others with loved ones leaving the same day/week who may be in the same TG and have PIR together. Be sure to check out the discussion, Things to Do in the Last Month Before Your Future Sailor Leaves for the RTC. I also suggest you join Boot Camp Moms and New Members Stop Here and check out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) and Discussions there.

Your future Sailor may want to join http://www.navydep.com to learn the ins and outs from the DEP point of view. Craig runs that and will steer him to some good links on there.

I didn't know there is a Tennessee navy for moms! Thanks. My son has been following the navy dep site and we both have looked at Craigs post on boot camp day by day. It is really informative. Thanks for your other suggestions. I have checked out each one already and they are very helpful. He is going into swcc and I looked at the site for that although there's not a whole lot of discussion there. One question... What is TG? I have seen that twice now.

TG is Training Group--the group of all the recruits in all the divisions that will have PIR (graduation) together.

SWCC would be rather quiet given the nature of that specialty.

The discussion, What does ??? mean? (A Guide to Navy Abbreviations and Terminology), within Boot Camp Moms will help you with terms and abbreviations you will see.

Your future Sailor will be in an 800 division, so you will most likely get the form letter around the same time as "the box" because that division is set upon arrival at the RTC.  Ship/Division--How it Works and Arrival and What Happens at the RTC will tell you more on that.

Groups for SWCC are swcc and Headed for SWCC.  Another group, SWCC Invitational, is even less active.

Ok thanks for the info. When my son came home and said he wanted to join the navy he comforted me by saying, "mom when's the last time you heard of us having a naval battle? I'll be perfectly safe." Then he comes home weeks later and says he made swcc. I asked what swcc is and he told me to watch Surviving the Cut. Well, that freaked me out! That is the most brutal training and swcc is sent to the most hostile environments! Aaagggghhhh! So now I have to up my supply of hair dye to cover all the gray I'm going to have!

Yep, but they are very well prepared for what they do.  Take care and blessings to you and yours.

my oldest son served as a swcc for 18 of his 22 yrs in the Navy. He loved every minute of it. You won't find much on it but they are well trained and work the buddy system to perfection.

I saw this! I hope he does make it all the way through.
I'm from Tn. My son is in the navy just finished bootcamp. Love to have as much support as I can get.
If you will send me a number or email I will be sure to let you know when we meet in January. How often did you hear from your son while he was in bootcamp? My friend is waiting to hear from hers, he has been in about 2weeks and she got a very short note after the first week.
