For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Hello there, Kim!
I lived in Groton for a few months while my husband was re-rated. I lived in military housing in the Trident Park area, which is honestly, not the best.
I didn't really like Groton. I guess that's why they call it "Rotten Groton". I kinda felt like I was in a time warp. Most of the buildings and stores are older looking it seemed. However, my husband and I made the best of it. We had to travel to Waterford for Walmart because the Groton Walmart isn't a supercenter. We also went to New London for most things because there's honestly not that much in Groton itself. The base is the best place to get gas and shop.
If you get a chance definitely visit Mystic. It's beautiful. My husband and I liked just randomly driving around and looking at the little shops and the bay there. Plus, you can go to the Mystic Aquarium. That's always nice! I had a hard time finding work and I wasn't going to be there long anyway, so I'm not sure how the market is job wise.
My husband and I spent a lot of time more or less outdoors trying to travel the North East. Most of our trips were to MA. We drove the whole Cape Cod one day for fun. There's some beaches. There's a few nice state parks to hike or walk around Groton, though. I guess it's all in what you make of it.
Hopefully, you'll find that you like it, but it definitely wasn't our favorite of bases.
