My daughter left the end of July and should be back by next spring.  I have been advised by my sister to seek a group of peers that are going/or have gone thru this experience as a MOM.

I have been okay up until 2 days ago, so I thought.  She had a bit of a set back during her 1st deployment and may have torn her ACL.  We are hoping for the best, she will have her MRI done once they get to the next port.  I know she is in great hands, I know the Navy will make sure she is taken care of.  I am always preaching about staying positive to others.  Right now I cannot stop crying.  It's been 2 days and I am an emotional wreck and I do not understand what is going on?

My family seems to think I have been down playing how I truly have felt since she left home 14 months ago and not expressing enough.

I thought that by moving on and keeping myself busy is what I am suppose to do.  She is my only child.

Crazy thing is I believe in the US Navy and I support her decision and I am so proud and happy for her.  So why am I having such a difficult time with this right now?

It scares me to feel this way.

She'll be OK. My sailor broke his ankle - had surgery - took awhile to recovered - no he didn't get any time off - he just hobbled around - did his work on shore. His ankle is fine now - the medical staff is good - don't worry.

What does your family want you to do?  Put your life on hold while your daughter grows up and gets a life of her own?  Keep going. You are suppose to live your own life too. Go out and make new friends.

Thank you so much for your reply.  So if she has to be flown back to San Diego, does someone pick her up at the airport?  I am under the impression that if they are expected to work they are expected to recover on their own?  I think what bothers me the most is not knowing how this will work, she can't walk right now.

If your daughter needs surgery they DO get a few weeks off to recover than they go back to work.

As far as if she flys back she can just take a cab from the airport to the base where they where put her.  There are bunks and rooms where they will put her on the base.

Thank you Angie.

If she needs surgery......  I do not want to get ahead of my self but that was a huge concern of mine.

Feel free to message me if you have questions.  I am Active duty and have been hurt while in the USN.  Been there done that.  LOL!

Something postive if she needs surgery is that the doc's in CA are really, really good!  Had my surgery out there.

Stay postive.  Stay strong!

I have a feeling you might be hearing from me again, thank you!!!

Anytime just hit me up.  Understand though I am direct and to the point.  I don't sugar coat anything and some people take that as rude, but it isn't meant that way.

I hope everything works out.

Stay postive!  Most important thing is her health, oh-yea and making sure all of it gets in her medical record.

Thank you Angie, I appreciate your honesty, I prefer it.  She will have her MRI in a few days, it's not looking good but still hoping for the best!!!

thanks for the medical record advise.

Thanks for ALL you do!!!

margysmom,

I am so sorry to read this, I had no idea she had been injured. Stay positive I am sure they are taking great care of her. Take one day at a time and try not to worry about what you dont know yet. I will have Matt check on her and keep her spirits up. Is she able to email you much? If you have not already done so, join the ships facebook page, they have lots of pictures and news on there. it sure helps me deal with them being gone. As to the family, you feel how you feel, no one can control your feelings. You deal with your baby being gone how it best fits for you. Each of us are different. Theres no right or wrong way to deal with our kids growing up and moving on with their lives. All we can do as parents is support them and be there for them.

I will pray that the knee injury is not as bad as they they think it might be and will heal on its own and quickly. HUGS. You have my email if you want to chat ok.

It's okay.  I am still waiting for results, it's a matter of hours I think right now.  They had to arrive to the next port first, they already scheduled her appointment for her MRI and other tests.

She introduced me to Matt on one of my visits to SD.  She called him "Baby Doc".  Then I recognized him on your badge.  I hope you recieved the photos I sent you.  And if Matt does check on her,  please know for sure it is greatly appreciated!!

She is trying to stay positive, and at the same time already planning ahead.  I do recieve emails form her almost every other day.  I found the Dewey FB page too.  It does help tremendously.  Just like the N4M's.

Thank you for your words and prayers.  Thank Matt for us, for serving!!!

No torn ACL.  A little meniscus tear, she can recover on the Dewey!!!  She is enjoying her deployment so much, it was definately tear jerking results for all of us!!
This is awesome news. I have been thinking of her all week. Onto the healing and getting back into the swing of things.
