OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

My daughter is being discharged from bootcamp due to a catarac's the doctor's knew about at MEPS
My daughter had been at boot camp for a week Tuesday when she called and said she was being discharged due to her cataract in her eye. Its a medical discharge. The Doctors at MEPS knew about her cataract and said it was not bad enough to disqualify her. I spoke to her eye doctor who was surprised they think it’s bad enough to kick her out. The doctors at boot camp told her she could not rejoin even if she has it fixed, it’s a simple 10 minute procedure and completely healed in 10 weeks. I called her recruiter who said she should be able to rejoin and he called MEPS and they said she should be able to rejoin. I feel so bad for her because she had been planning on this for the last year, quit her job, prepared for it physically. She said she hated book camp so far but was handling it fine. I was only able to talk to her for 20 minutes and she said she could call everyday. That was 2 days ago and I have not heard from her since. She said they put all the people who quit boot camp or get discharged for medical in the psyche ward and she was with patients who are mentally disturbed. I don’t know who to go to get answers.

No she didnt fight it, I think they knew what she had wrong with her was fixable so thats why they gave her thr RE8. She wants to goto school now and go in as an officer.

My son also has a cataract and some scar tissue but still has 20/20 vision. They also told him that he would not be able to rejoin. I am currently waiting for him to go to legal so he can tell me when they are going to release him. It really is heartbreaking to hear they are kicking people out for such minor issues that are definetly fixable.

Donna R , so glad to find someone else in my shoes also. Just got called from my son, that he his being sent home because of old knee injury. He had a extra check up at MEPS, dr. said ok, this weekend while waiting for a recheck at Boot Camp on knee, it went out on him, hasn't had a problem with it in years, they recommend he do surgery take out pin and rejoin in a year, could stay in and stay in boot camp for 6 months. I will tell him tomorrow when he calls about being sure to NOT GET A Re-4. Let me how things go for you. My son left on 4/21 and now on Ship 5. He doen't want to come home but 6 months in boot camp without privildges I think seems to long to him.

My daughter got her old job back and is planning on going ot the JC. Shes not sure if she wants to go back in now. She will try school and then she said if she goes back in, she wants to go in an officer.

Lolly, My son also got sent home with an RE-8. He doesn't know if he is going to bother with trying to re-enlist but if things go well for your daughter. Please do let me know. He is going to get his cataract repaired but as I stated earlier, from everything I have read I'm afraid that he won't be able to get the waiver for the lens implant. Any news you have would be greatly appreciated

She can go back in after YEAR IF SHE GETS IT FIXED, HOPEFULLY THEY WILL SAY THE SAME OT HIM.

This is what I worry about........from everything that I have read it is next to impossible to get a waiver for a lens replacement. It seems like he would be better off trying to get a waiver for his current situation than getting it fixed and trying to get a waiver. if you have heard something different please let me know.

Kind of coincidental.........my son said the same thing about being put with people who are psychologically unstable. He said that they bunked in different areas but when it came to chow and other activities he said they got combined with what they call the "CRAZIES". He said that one of them grabbed him while he was in line for chow and shoved him against the wall......telling him that he wasn't in line. Needless to say, my son didn't like that very much at all and basically told him that he had better never touch him again. I would hate to see how the normal people on ship 5 come out if they have to spend too much time with the psych patients.

I don't know that anyone can really fault the MEPS doctors for the "Crazies" getting to BC. There are people who have never had a problem who for whatever reason can't take the stress of BC and have a psychotic break, and therefore the MEPS doctors would have no reason to suspect. There are those who don't disclose something because it didn't seem important and so how would the MEPS doctors know. There are those who don't disclose something because they are aware that it could be a disqualifying condition, but they think that they can handle it and then they can't--again, how would the MEPS doctors know? These "Crazies" can look very sane at times.

My daughter said some of the people who were in there for pych reasons wanted to go home and were acting more upset then they really were. She said it was tough in bootcamp but she was handaling it. I think her 3 weeks in the Navy will gave her some important lessons about herself and the world.
