My son arrived at boot camp yesterday and I received my phone call @ 12:30 this morning.  I can't explain what came over me!! I was doing ok until I got that phone call. I feel like something was ripped from the pit of my stomach and I have been crying on and off since then.  I know he's ok and this experience will help him grow; but how long does it take for mom to get better? : )

Thanks for thinking of me, I will be checking on you on the 23rd of Nov. The only word of advice that I have right now is to be strong and stay encouraged when your son is around. It makes it easier for them if we can hold it together at least until they're outta of our sight. I am very proud but I guess it's a mother's bond that makes it hard for us.
Hang in there, oknavymom, It will get better as I have been told. My son got there Monday. Keep busy, read the books recommended like Honor, Courage, Commitment and Letters from Bootcamp, write a continuous letter everyday and mail it when we get their address. Check out the cards at the grocery store and get some holiday and humorous ones to lift their spirits. As hard as it is for us it is really difficult for them. Be proud that they are finally doing what they have worked so hard to do. Come visit us on the discussion leaving for bootcamp the week of October 25th where there are lots of moms going through the same things you are. When we know their PIR (graduation date) join the group and we can share this experience together. Hugs and I know it will get easier. Kathy
My son graduated on Sept 24, I know exactly how you feel. When we said goodbye at the airport and then he called it felt like someone had ripped my heart out! I cried for days. It does and it will get easier. I got that first letter and be prepared, it broke my heart as bad as his call. Cherish the few calls you will get, and go to his graduation. It was the best day ever!! I have never been so proud of him.. If he is going to A school in Pensacola, he can have a cell phone. It is wonderful to be able to talk to him everyday. It still is hard, but it doesnt hurt so much!! Hang in there!!
