For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

My husband IS joining the navy, wives please help me!!!!!! :(
So my husband has decided he's joining the navy..... He's extremely set on serving his country and taking care of his family. My husband is the most hard-working person I have ever met and has the biggest heart I know the military will really be GREAT for him. However I'm 20 and he is 23. We both work tons, we have a 5 year old in school and a 4 month old baby at home. I'm so concerned about this. I know nobody can give real answers but I seriously am on my last hope by posting this to keep my sanity. Can someone please tell me will he be away from home a lot? Will we be able to afford me staying home with my kids when we get stationed? Will he be watching his kids grow up through pictures or will it just be every now and then that he gets deployed? Are the benefits as good as they say they are? If so what are they? someone please answer me........ I don't want to hold him back from his dreams and I will not do that but I also have a family I want a good future for and refuse to let go....

Deciding to join the Navy doesn't mean that he IS joining the Navy. Like any other job, you apply and hope to be accepted. There are more applicants than available jobs, so not everyone will make the cut. And then the jobs being offered may not be to you husband's liking.
The first hurdle to overcome will be getting a waiver for 3 dependents. The Navy wants to know that Sailors can meet their family's financial obligations on a Sailor's pay. His gross basic pay at 6 months will be between $1547 and $1823 a month plus a housing allowance. I see you are from Virgina, the housing allowance in the Norfolk area is $1419 monthly. If you can't live on this, paying all your bills, no waiver.

"Choose your rate , choose your fate........" Some jobs are top heavy with sea duty. Boatswain Mate gets a lot of sea duty for one. Some aviation rates get plenty of sea time. Sea Bees deploy as a battalion. FMF Corpsmen deployment with the Marines. Most Navy rates have 36/36 month sea shore rotation, not all but most do. I have met Chiefs with over twenty years that have never been at sea. They were able to select back to back to back overseas duty. Some Sailors have done the same with sea duty. If I was a young Sailor going and I had a choice it would be overseas duty in Japan or Okinawa (Japan). Point being there isn't a hard and fast rules about duty stations. Career sailors have to be selective about duty stations and type duty Ships homeport in the States will be in their home 50% of the time less shakedown cruises...............good luck.
