My son is also leaving on the 23rd to Great Lakes.

My son leaves from home on the 23rd, goes to Springfield and then flies out for BC in the morning of the 24th.  From the sounds of it, he could graduate on 1/22 or 1/15?  I will just have to wait until the form letter comes as it gets closer so we can make travel plans because I am definitely going to his graduation.  He signed up in April and we had 7 months of waiting, which seemed like a long time at the moment but it came up so fast!  I think he is ready to get this going--it's been a lot of waiting especially since a lot of his high school friends have gone off to college.  It's not going to be easy but I have to be strong for him because this is what he wants to do.  So many people have told him they are a little jealous that he's doing this and I've also heard "he's doing what a lot of people WISHED they did."  It's a positive thing, it ill build his confidence and he'll get to meet lots and lots of people that he would've never had the opportunity to.  To all the Mom's out there--we can do this!

You are correct about the possible PIR dates. See Arrival and What Happens at the RTC.

Hi all, My daughter leaves 11/23....have some experience with this as my son has been in the Navy 4+ years now....different with a daughter though...hoping to make friends with some mom's whose kids are in same PIR group.  Is great to chat with people who are going through the same things as I am and then to meet up with them at graduation.

My son leaves the 23rd as well. Going to Great Lakes. Had a really hard week...nervous for Monday. Not sure how I will do.
Having our family Thanksgiving today....finishing up last details...even though this is my second child i am shipping off, it doesn't get easier. Thinking of you all this weekend as I know we are all going through the same emotions.
My son leaves today also.
My son made it to GL. Now we wait for the phone call. So proud of him but sad at the same time. Adjusting to a quiet house isn't something I'm looking forward to.

Welcome to the next part of the journey.

Check your My Page.

Got my 15 second "I'm here" call last night at about 9pm last night.  My daughter sounded excited as she has been ready to get this journey started since she signed on the dotted line a few months ago.  She said at the airport at Chicago, they took them in a room that had tables of food, snacks and candy....then they told them they couldn't have any, that there is a table that had a bunch of bottled water....they said hydrate well because you will get nothing until tomorrow.  As a mom, it seems harsh, but know they will break them down to nothing and build them up to be great sailors.  Having been through this before with my son, those of you that have not had someone go through this, you will be amazed by the growth and maturity your child will go through....at graduation you will be amazed.  Thoughts and prayers for all of you during this difficult time.  We all will get through this, the wait sucks until you hear their voice again.  My daughter said they told her it will be a month before they can call again.  Hang in there!!

Mine was last night also, though he did not tell me about the tables of food!  He did mention t when he landed that it was about to get real.  Something about how it looked like he might not be sleeping for a while.  It is so hard to think I cant just text or call or run by and see him.

I agree....I am having trouble with not being able to send a text to see if she's ok.
