My Sailor left for the GL exactly a week ago. I bet he didn't start anything until Monday night/ Tuesday morning. I've written everyday so far. I even wrote letters before he left to show him what he'd be getting on the daily. He said he loved it & it would give him stuff to do. But the past week is probably the hardest thing I've been through so far. I feel like time never moves. Of course I have fears and think about the bad but I've gotten alot better with staying positive with them. I'm as positive as I can be when I write, & my family & his are the biggest support system I have. I've talked to his mom at least every other day & shes amazing. I know we're both breaking down inside but we remember its not forever. I just wanna know, when to expect a phone call or when do they start writing letters. I've been trying to figure out what 'day' hes on like P-1, P-2, etc and its difficult. But I know all of this will get easier, especially when I get his first letter. I'm trying my hardest to take things day by day, but I've always been a planner even though i'm really flexible with it. Any advice on what to do?

Just keep writing because it will help you to feel connected even though you can't mail the letters until you get the form letter. Stay connected with his mom and with others who are going through the same thing in DEP-Leavin for bootcamp in July and stay informed about what is going on through the Pages in Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) and other groups you join. Stay busy; start a new hobby or renew an interest in one you have let lapse.....  When you get a call or letter, share the info with his mom and hopefully she will do the same and that will help you both. The Page, Arrival and What Happens at the RTC  within Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) will let you know what is happening and when to expect things.

BTW, you don't have a Sailor yet. Your recruit or SR will not be a Sailor until sometime in the last week before PIR. He must pass BST and exchange his RECRUIT ball cap for a NAVY ball cap and then that afternoon or evening he will call you to let you know that he is a Sailor.

Thank you, I think Im gonna pick up an old hobby so there's something to do when I'm not working. Thank you for the links they're helpful. & it's hard getting used to all these actranims, I didn't know SR was like the preform of the Sailor.

You are very welcome. What does ??? mean? (A Guide to Navy Abbreviations and Terminology) may help with many of the new acronyms and terms.

Hi-

I don't know if I can be of much help but I'll do my best!  My son left for GL the end of July.  We received his box of items and phone right away.  Everyday I write to him and did so before I even got his address.  I think it makes me feel better and I hope it puts a smile on his face too.

I received his address a week or so later so I mailed every letter I had written right away.  Then, the best day of all came this past Saturday when he called.  It took about 18 days.  We could only talk for 10 minutes but it was the best 10 minutes I could ask for.  He had received my letters and said he had written back so I might get a note in a few days.

Be patient with yourself.  This is a huge decision your Sailor made and I'm sure you are as proud as all of us.  I think writing daily and being as upbeat as possible is good for both of you.  I take walks, read and just sit back in awe of all of the wonderful people who are serving our country.  I wish you both the best!

Sandy, since you know your SR's PIR date, go to http://www.navyformoms.com/forum/topics/groups-listed-by-pir-date and join the group for that.

You may also want to join, or at least check out, Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) and PIR Reference Information. There will be a lot of great information and support for you in those groups as well as in the PIR group. Be sure to check out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) and Discussions within the groups. Arrival and What Happens at the RTC within Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) will let you know what is happening, but you will also want to check out the other Pages in all of the groups.

Thank you!  I have gone to so many sites I get lost.  I appreciate your help as this is my first day on the site.

You are very welcome.

Thank you (: I write everyday & today is the day I sent out 4 envelopes with 2 weeks worth of letters. I'm pretty excited knowing he'll get them soon. I cried a little putting them in the mail box just because I wish he was here & could be apart of everything that's happening instead of me writing it down. Everyday gets a little easier though cause its 1 day closer to him coming home. I just have to learn to be patient, that's my biggest thing. But than you so much for the comment<3
