OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Navy Gateway or Navy Lodge?
What i was wondering is: is it better to stay in the navy gateway or the navy lodge for PIR? I am a spouse so i do have a military ID in case youre wondering and my 8 month old son will be staying with me. The PIR my husband will be graduating on 11/09/2012. Any info on the two would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

I've never seen anyone mention Gateway before. Is it even an option before a recruit graduates?

It looks to me like Gateway is located inside the Naval base.

We stayed at the Gateway for part of our time there (we went early to see friends, then moved hotels when my inlaws got in town). Gateway also has breakfast, but I don't remember how early they start it. It's a very reasonable price, clean, has wifi, and our bed was comfortable. They have a couple of buildings, one was across the street from McDonalds and one across from the exchange. Navy Inns usually have 2 queen sized beds (we didn't stay at the one there, but we've stayed at a lot of them and they've all had that and a kitchenette). Gateway was one bed, and you could have a kitchenette or not. I don't know if that Navy Inn has wifi, you might want to ask before booking if that matters to you (not all Navy Inns do). You also might want to check if the Gateway Inn there will let you stay with an infant - some have rules against dependents under 18.

It is off limits to the A school sailors, but on PIR weekend they can visit. Since they can't stay the night anyway, it has't been a problem.
However, it is the Navy, so they could enforce the rule at any time. Personally, I'd just go with the Lodge and avoid potential conflicts. They do have wifi.

So, have we concluded, as I thought, that navywife cannot stay there unless she also has a military background? A recruit's wife can't stay there. We couldn't even get onto the base without our son getting a pass first, and obviously, if her husband is at Boot Camp, cannot do it for her.
As to wifi at the Navy Lodge, it is only available in the lobby (which is very small).

Also, to be clear for navywife, the base that contains Navy Gateway is not the same base that holds PIR. It's probably a half mile away.
Navy Lodge was a fine place to stay. Easy to get into and out of, free bag breakfast the morning of PIR, and about a mile from RTC. $65. No tax. No shuttle.

If she already has a military ID, as a spouse, she could stay there. It was really 6 of one, half dozen of the other as far as distance to getting to where you go in for PIR, and the Gateways and Lodges offer comperable quality as far as comfort and cleanliness goes. The big differences to consider is one has 2 beds, the other has one. Gateway is cheaper (we paid $40 a night I think it was, for the room with a kitchenette), but she might not be able to stay there with children under a certain age. Wifi in the rooms for the one, you know the breakfast opens early enough for the PIR for the other. (As was said, right now, the only issue with the off limits thing would be if he was going to A school there and she was staying extra time to try to see him.)
There really isn't a "better" in this case, it's more a personal preference, they both have selling points.

my husband is going to A school in Fort Lee, VA but he will be staying in GL for five days after graduation, so I was hoping to see him

He wouldn't be allowed to go visit you at the Gateway Inn, but I'm not sure that he would be able to visit you at the Navy Inn during that time either. They have a bit more freedom on their PIR liberty, but they are under pretty tight restrictions in the early days of their A school and the time just before the school, while they're waiting to class up. The Gateway is on the same part of the base that the A schools are on, but they aren't allowed in them, it's off limits. The Lodge is on the other side, by the family housing. He wouldn't be able to go to the Navy Inn without a liberty buddy, assuming it's not off limits (I don't know if it is). They may or may not let you count as a liberty buddy, his chain of command makes that call.
Either place you should be able to meet him, like at the food court or the McDonalds or other public place on the base to visit him in his off time.
