My son has been waiting on a waiver to see if he will be eligible to enter the Navy. How long do these usually take? He has 1 traffic violation leaving the scene of a accident without bodily/personel property damage. He ran through a stop sign and into a field. We decided to leave the car until morning and police came by and towed car then charged him with leaving an accident. Also has 2 drinking in public citations. What are his chances of getting a waiver approved?

Thanks in advance for any advise!

I don't know for sure, but becuase there are so many people trying to get in these days and many of them do not require any waivers, I would think the chances of getting a waiver were not very good, BUT, I really just don't know, just going from what I've read on Navy 4 Moms the last 9 months.
thanks for your input
still praying!
You will likely have to wait for the legal system to work it's way through the accident charge (if it hasn't already). If the case is still pending, nothing will happen until it is resolved.

After that, a lot will depend on 1) how long ago these things happened, and 2) your son's ASVAB scores. Our son had an under age drinking and a speeding ticket, both more than 3 years before he applied - neither actually required a waiver, although a transfer from a basic math class (trig) to a higher one (pre-calc) in high school did, since it appeared from his transcript that he had dropped the first class with no grade recorded.

Since the Navy is pretty much full, ASVAB scores are important because they determine your job prospects - our son scored rather well (he has a nuke contract) so the Navy (aka "the needs of the Navy") likely found it fairly easy to grant the waiver.

All that said, his waiver came through in a little over three weeks, but that included the Christmas/New Years stand-down. If your son had a high ASVAB (or did well on the AFQT the recruiters give) you probably don't have anything to worry about.
He scored 74 on ASVAB. Nothing pending in the legal system. I am not sure what the average ASVAB score is? He seemed to think this was a decent score. At the request of the recruiter he attended a drug and alcohol evaluation and scored high (no dependacy characteristics). It has been about 10days since his paperwork all went to MEPS. Hopefully he will hear something soon
