My daughter is in BC now and her PIR is scheduled for 7/12/13. I got the form letter with the list of 4 people she wants as guests. The problem is that her father and stepmother have a list of at least 6 or 7 people that they want to include. My daughter did not include her father, stepmother or any of the people they wanted on the list. I told her it was her choice to make as to who she included and she said she wanted to include the people that have been supportive of her for her entire life and especially her choice to enlist. I don't want to put any unnecessary pressure on her while she's in BC so I will be the one to tell her father that she did not include them on the list. I don't want her to have to deal with the drama that he will create. I know she will have limited liberty after graduation but will most likely be heading to A school the next day and I know they could come and visit with her after graduation but she already has her plans laid out for what she wants us to do for her liberty...Anyway, has anyone else had a similar situation? Does anyone have any suggestions on how to break the news to her father?

The recruit is only allowed 4 (or sometimes 3) guests to go to PIR. It isn't anything the parents or anyone else can do. If people are not on the list they are not allowed into PIR, and they are not allowed to wait on the base. They can wait in their hotel.
What job is going for? If her school is in Great Lakes she will have more liberty than if her school is out of state. As if it is out of state the odds are she will fly out the next day after PIR.
As far as telling those not going, just tell them. Give them the FB page to RTC or the RTC website so they can see it in black and white that only 4 guests can go. If they can't handle it well oh well...they will get over it. It is your daughters PIR not their day.
She's heading to California for A school and as I understand it she will be leaving the day after PIR. I'm hoping to get a chance to talk to her dad this weekend and tell him. Say a little prayer for us because the last thing she needs is her dad jumping her butt when she calls him.
If he does go, she should get liberty after PIR for a few hours and also you all can meet her at the airport. Though it is up to her who can get passes to come wait with her at the gate.
After you talk with him...see if you can put it in a letter and let her know so she is forewarned when and if she calls him.
My ex wasn't on my Sailor's list, but he knew ahead of time that that could happen. You can show your ex the form letter (make a copy) and tell him that your daughter indicated on the form letter who she wants to attend and it is her choice. At this time, only those on the Access List get to enter the Drill Hall for PIR and any others will be asked to leave the RTC. Tell him that you will ask her to order an extra copy of the DVD for him so he will have his own copy and can share that with others who cannot attend. (See Division T-Shirts, Graduation Photos, The Keel, and DVD of PIR) If he asks about her having another recruit list him and others, let him know that the RTC considers that a breach of security so that cannot happen. Perhaps he can visit her in Monterey, CA while she is in "A" School.
She will write down the names for the Access List about 10 days prior to PIR.
I see that you have joined CTI; you are correct your Sailor won't have that much time on the day of PIR. Liberty begins around 10:30 and Liberty for her could end sometime between 7 and 9, with 8 pm being the average and you have to have her back about 30 minutes before that and if she has watch that will take more time out of her Liberty. See PIR Day and Liberty During PIR Weekend within Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) for more on that. I invite you to join that group while you are there and to check out the other Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) as well. Thanks for the links and all of the info.
You are very welcome.
Well things didn't go well when breaking the news to her dad...actually he took it ok and said he totally understood but his wife flew off the handle and sent some very nasty texts to me over the weekend. That resulted in me having to make the 3 hour drive to their house to pick up my SR's things that were being stored there. Is it right for me to NOT tell my SR what's going on? I don't want her to have to deal with this drama so I want to just tell her that they wanted to convert her room up there into an office or something so I went and got her stuff.
You don't need to tell her anything that is her dads place to tell her what a pain in the ass his new wife is :)
NEVER, EVER BURDEN YOUR RECRUIT WITH ANY DRAMA GOING ON AT HOME. I know you might be tempted because her father's wife is behaving so poorly - but please keep it to yourself. She will find out soon enough. Amy, dealing w family drama is tough but you have to step up and take the heat. You are doing this for her. Going thru bootcamp is stressful enough w/o having to worry about how things are going w loved ones, especially one who are at odds with each other. There are a number of group here that are very supportive. You are not alone in dealing with this. Give yourself a pat on the back. You raised a fine daughter and soon she'll be a US Sailor. Good luck.
DO NOT let your SR know about that drama while she is in BC; she has enough to deal with on her way to becoming a US Navy Sailor. I hope that her dad keeps the news of this drama from her as well, but you can only do the best you can do and from what you have written it appears that you are doing that.
