I am so excited a friend found this site for me!  My son left yesterday.  I got the call at 1:32am today that he had arrived.  So proud!  Any advice?

He will if you leave that note or a signed note on the door.

You may not hear from him for a while, but no news is good news :)

my son graduated from BC last friday (6/20/14); lots ups and downs during the BC, but the good Lord on our side, we made it thru :)

I wrote letters everyday and sent out everyday; encourage him and stay positive.  Letter is the only means of communication they have with outside other then occasional phone calls on saturdays (if allowed as a division), so try to write often.

you'll get the box soon with his clothes and phone, ect,..

I'm happy that a stranger at one of my bouts started up a conversation with my son. He had traveled with my team and wore his Navy jacket to the bout. Ended up sitting beside a Navy mom. Durning their conversation she mentioned this site and encouraged him to tell me. I'm glad she did.

Fabulous! This is a great site. When did your sailor leave?

Just hang in there and don't expect a lot of correspondance until about 3 weeks into it. It seemed like forever until we got a letter.  But sometimes, depending on who's in charge you'll get an unexpected phone call.  I was in the shower the first time and so I was soaking wet and my husband, my other son, my daughter and all of us gathered around talking to him on speaker phone. The first time he heard little sisters voice he started crying. But encourage him and send plenty of stuff, comics and new articles, cause they're cut off from everything. Just hang tough!

Georgia, check your My Page.

My son will be leaving in September.  I'm nervous, worried, excited, and much more.  What should I do before he leaves for bootcamp?  I've been avoiding looking into any sites such as this to not worry myself, but the date is creeping up. Any advice on your preparations is appreciated.

This site will be so good for you! answers a lot of questions

Check out the discussion, Things to Do in the Last Month before Your Future Sailor Leaves for.... It's not too early to start discussing some of the things there with your future Sailor such as how to handle bad news and who will be put on the Access List.... Enjoy the time you have together.

He leaves on the 8th

Our son left yesterday also. We received the phone call at 6:50 pm last night. So proud we are also of our son.

When my youngest son left for boot camp a year ago, I was on pin & needles.  I got the "Mama, I'm here, will call you in 3 weeks call," then a couple of days later, I received the "kid in the box."  My best advice is send letters.  The letters will help your son through boot camp.  My husband, oldest son, & daughter told me to stop writing my youngest son so much.  I second guess my writing him, but when I received his letter he told me my letters helped him through boot camp & for me to keep writing.  It really motivated him because they go through so much & the letters are all they have to the outside world.  I love this website because it helped me understand all my son was going through, etc.  I hope this helps.  I wish your son good luck & you will be so proud of what he's accomplished.  Graduation is beautiful & your son changing from a civilian to a sailor.  Beautiful thing.
